WELCOME

TO DONCASTER RACECOURSE

Good afternoon and welcome to Doncaster Racecourse. We are thrilled you’ve joined us here today for our Platinum Jubilee Raceday as we celebrate 70 years of Her Majesty The Queen. We’d like to thank today’s sponsors Cazoo and Arabian Racing for their most generous and continued support. Today, we will be taking a look back at Queen Elizabeth II’s career in horse racing and her royal victories at Town Moor. Have you seen our Royal display in the County Enclosure next to the Owners and Trainer’s Desk? Our display cabinet includes memorabilia and photographs from Her Majesty The Queen’s visits to Doncaster Racecourse over the years and is well worth a visit. You may also have noticed lots of life-sized cutouts of The Queen around the site today. If you have a selfie with the Queen – we’d love to see it! Tag us on social media @ DoncasterRaces. We have eight races on the card today and prior to the first race there will be an ARO race for purebred Arabian horses at 12:51. Her Majesty The Queen’s horse Loudspeaker is due to run in the fourth race today at 15:06 and just before this race we invite you to join us as we sing the National Anthem in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee. Our raceday presenter Bobby Beevers and resident tipster Roger Hart will be in the Parade Ring at around 12:20pm to talk you through today’s racecard and hopefully pick you out some winners! We hope you’ll join us next Sunday, 12th June for our Lakeside Village Dinocaster Racecourse Family Fun Day. You’ll be transported back millions of years to see Zeus the giant T Rex, a Triceratops, Raptor and Spinosaurus roaming around Dinocaster Racecourse. Have a chat with Cory the Talking Dilophosaurus Dinosaur, see baby dinosaurs hatching from their eggs, register as a trainee ranger at the Dino Basecamp or take part in a dinosaur dig to see if you can discover prehistoric dinosaur bones. Tickets are available at www.doncaster-racecourse.co.uk. Our flagship fixture, the Cazoo St Leger Festival is just around the corner, taking place 7th – 10th September! The highlight of Doncaster’s social calendar, we welcome visitors from all over the country to Town Moor for this four-day festival including the World’s oldest Classic – the St Leger Stakes. Tickets are available now at www.doncaster-racecourse.co.uk. After an afternoon of racing and celebrations today, head over to the Champagne Lawn where the street party will continue. We have live entertainment from ‘Decade Explosion’ who are sure to get you up on the dance floor for a right royal knees-up, playing your favourite hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s. As always, our team here at Doncaster are committed to doing our very best to ensure you enjoy your day and we value any feedback you may have. We wish you the best of luck today! Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

HER MAJESTY On 6th February this year Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the CommonCommonwealth. As we celebrate this extended Bank wealth. As Holiday weekend, we take a look back at Her Majesty The Queen’s career in horse racing and her royal victories at Town Moor.

The Queen on her way to the Paddock to see her horse ‘Gay Tim e’ in 1952 (Yorkshire Post

Newspapers)

In 1977, the year of Her Majesty’s Silver Ju Jubilee, her horse Dunfermline rode to victo victory in the St Leger. The Queen had already landed one Classic earlier in the season when Dunfermline scored in the Oaks – a victory popular across Britain with all but a young Luca Cumani, who trained the duo left in the royal Filly’s wake, Freeze The Se Se-cret and Vaguely Deb.

(Yorkshire Post

Newspapers)

relaThe Queen has always had a special relationship with Yorkshire both as Princess Elizabeth and as Sovereign and her love of horse racing has drawn her to Doncaster, and to the St Leger, on numerous occasions. In her Coronation year of 1953 the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, accompanied Her Majesty The Queen to the St Leger at Doncaster Racecourse.

Y THE QUEEN

at DoncasterRacecourse

The Doncaster race was a classic in every sense. It developed into a sustained and gritty duel up the long Donny straight before Dun Dunsuperi fermline and Carson ground out their superiority by a hard-won length and a half, with the hitherto-unbeaten and subsequent dual Arc de The Triomphe winner Alleged in second place. place. The rest of the field was spreadeagled 13 lengths and more behind. It was a battle royal between two extraordinary teams:Vincent O’Brien and Lester v the Major and Willie.Alleged was the greater racehorse but this was a girl’s day out – for Dunfermline and Her Majesty. Her Majesty The Queen has also enjoyed some more recent wins at Doncaster Racecourse. Her filly Height Of Fashion won Doncaster’s May Hill Stakes at the 1981 St Leger meeting. This was one of the performances that made her that year’s top rated two-year-old. Height Of Fashion was destined to become an immensely successful broodmare.

Estimate wins the Doncaster Cup 2014 The town of King’s Lynn is in Norfolk, but The Queen’s horse of that name relishes Doncaster, having won there twice so far. The first was a £300,000 race at the 2019 St Leger meeting, beating 19 rivals, and the latest was at the November Handicap meeting last year. King’s Lynn has no entries currently. Her Majesty would usually be attending the Derby at Epson Downs today. The Derby is the one major race that The Queen has not managed to win, and be in no doubt, it is the race she would most like to win. In her long racing career, Her Majesty’s horses have finished second, third and fifth in the race, with the top prize just eluding her. (Nigel Kirby)

On 13th September 2007, Medley won the Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster Racecourse, a listed race for fillies and mares. Then in 2014, Estimate rode to victory in the Doncaster Cup.

(Tony Knapton Photography)

But, come Leger day,Alleged day, Alleged and Lester Piggot were 4-7 favourites thanks to a seven-length romp in the Great Voltigeur, and the royal filly a 10-1 chance.

Kings Lynn wins, 12th September 2019 Will The Queen enjoy another classic winner in her Platinum Jubilee year?

RACE SUMMARY

There could be more to come from recent distance winner Balqees, who is race fit and boasts solid course form. Al Kaaser has plenty of ability and after a few patchy runs has dropped to a more workable mark, so Wanaasa could find him harder to shake off this season. Both she and Tijaary make their seasonal debuts after minor setbacks, but WANAASA is the least exposed and looked a horse of potential. She is the narrow selection providing she retains her ability and takes to the turf

RACE SUMMARY

MAPLE JACK failed to trouble the judge in a couple of runs on the all-weather earlier this year, but the form of his Musselburgh maiden success last spring reads very well in the context of this race and he returns from a break on a potentially handy mark. Harry’s Ridge will be a danger to all if fully tuned-up following 14 months off, while Impressor also merits respect, along with Dandys Gold and Helvetian.

LONGEST TRAVELLER: FLYING STANDARD trained by C Wall, Newmarket, 128 miles. RACE SUMMARY

FLYING STANDARD was tapped for toe at Chelmsford last time and is probably better judged on his reappearance success in a 1 3/4m Catterick handicap. He’s just 3lb above that winning mark here and this galloping track should play to his strengths. Red Derek will be a threat if able to build on his latest effort at Nottingham, while Gift of Raaj also enters calculations. 1-2-3: 1.FLYING STANDARD (IRE) 2.RED DEREK 3.GIFT OF RAAJ (IRE) KEY

HORSE WELFARE COMES FIRST AT DONCASTER At every race meeting at Doncaster our top priority is the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. We have a dedicated team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting. Use of Screens It is our policy to erect green screens around any horse requiring veterinary attention. This does NOT reflect the severity of any injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse. Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse!

RACE SUMMARY

A competitive handicap, so at the likely odds it is worth siding with LOUDSPEAKER who is fancied to take a big step forward now he tackles this longer distance and wears a visor for the first time. Hat-trick seeking Hilts rates a big threat, although there are many others with solid chances, chiefly the thriving Captain Kane and handicap-debutant The Gadget Man.

MIGDAM looked a good prospect when winning a couple of novices at Kempton in September and is the type to make his mark in handicaps this season. Zoom looked suited by this longer trip when a close third in the London Gold Cup at Newbury and is the obvious threat, while Adjourn is another who remains with potential now handicapping.
