WELCOME

TO DONCASTER RACECOURSE

Hello and welcome to Doncaster Racecourse for The Betfair Clock Tower Cup Raceday in aid of Racing Welfare. We would like to thank our sponsor Racing Welfare for their continuous and most generous support. The Betfair Clock Tower Cup in aid of Racing Welfare is the pinnacle of Racing Staff Week. In its sixth year, Racing Staff Week brings together the racing industry and its followers, to showcase the passion, skill and dedication across the breadth of the industry. The contribution of the industry’s entire workforce is recognised, from stud and stable staff to breeders, racecourse staff, and everyone in-between – all whose hard work makes this great sport possible. The highlight of the day is the Clock Tower Cup – a charity race for stable staff, which will take place at 5:30pm. Funds generated by today’s raceday will be used by Racing Welfare, a registered charity supporting the workforce of British horseracing. Our final two Live After Racing racedays will see Nile Rodgers and Chic at Town Moor on Saturday 16th July and McFly on Saturday 13th August. Then, on Saturday 30th July get ready to rock as we welcome Magic Queen to the stage after racing, at our Rock at the Races raceday. Magic Queen are one of the most dynamic and exciting Queen Tribute Bands in Europe and are sure to get you up on the dancefloor! Our flagship fixture, the Cazoo St Leger Festival takes place 7th – 10th September! The festival opens on Wednesday 7th September with the Cazoo Leger Legends Day – featuring the Leger Legends charity race for ex-professional jockeys. Thursday 8th September is Ladies Day – featuring the highly anticipated Style Awards and your chance to impress the judges with your outfit and win a whopping £500! Friday 9th September sees the return of the Cazoo Doncaster Cup – the oldest race currently run under the rules of British horseracing, which last year was won by Frankie Dettori on Stradivarius. Finally, the highlight of the four-day festival is Cazoo St Leger Day on Saturday, 10th September when we welcome visitors from all over the country to Town Moor to watch history in the making, with the final Classic of the revered British flat racing season – the Group 1 Cazoo St Leger Stakes - the world’s oldest Classic! Tickets for all our upcoming racedays, events and Live After Racing Music Nights are available now at www.doncaster-racecourse.co.uk. We have a division today, so the last race will take place at 5pm, followed by the Betfair Clock Tower Cup at 5:30pm. Our raceday presenter Martin Higgs and tipster Kevin Ackerman will be in the Parade Ring at around 12:30pm to run through today’s runners and riders and hopefully pick you out some winners! As always, our team here at Doncaster are committed to doing our very best to ensure you enjoy your day and we value any feedback you may have. We hope you have a great day! Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

HORSE WELFARE COMES FIRST AT DONCASTER At every race meeting at Doncaster our top priority is the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. We have a dedicated team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting. Use of Screens It is our policy to erect green screens around any horse requiring veterinary attention. This does NOT reflect the severity of any injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse. Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse! 15

MOSTLY CLOUDY is a 3-y-o stayer firmly on the upgrade and he can shrug off a 9lb rise for Nottingham with this step up in trip in his favour. Storm Chaser won a farcical race at the same track last week and while she won’t get the advantages she received that day, her mark is unchanged, so she’s feared most.

RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (17-22): R Fahey (25 wins from 322 runners, 8%) runs MONSIEUR KODI. TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): T Easterby (10 wins from 93 runners, 11%) runs IMPELLER. IDOAPOLOGISE arrives on a long losing run but only just lost out over C&D last week and is weighted to go one better now off a 1lb lower mark. It’s easy enough to make cases both for and against the majority of these. MARSELAN has dipped to an attractive mark and is worth chancing in the hope that he is able to reproduce something akin to his good second at Thirsk in May. Athollblair Boy will be a threat if responding well to the new headgear, while recent Redcar scorer Absolute Dream and Peachey Carnehan are others to consider. 1-2-3: 1.MARSELAN (IRE) 2.ATHOLLBLAIR BOY (IRE) 3.ABSOLUTE DREAM (IRE) KEY colours
