Other than Doncaster Racecourse I’d say it’s the amazing people of Doncaster!
My favourite memory at work was watching William Buick win the Cazoo St Leger Stakes in 2021 on Hurricane Lane It was super poignant moment for me as his father-in-law was Roderick Duncan our Clerk of the Course who retired last year, so it was his last St Leger Festival. It was magical to watch all their reactions, it’s fair to say there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

THE PARK HILL STAKES
FREE WIND 2021 WINNER
The feature race of today’s card is the Coral Park Hill Fillies’ Stakes (Class 1), worth £120,000 in prize money. Since its first running in 1839, the race has also been known as Fillies’ St Leger. This race was originally restricted to three-year-old fillies and has now altered to fillies and mares, aged four or older Last year, Frankie Dettori joined the leading jockey board, tied with jockeys Sim Templeman and John Osbourne Jr He was riding Free Wind, trained by John and Thady Gosden, won this race impressively as the filly travelled strongly and went on to win by seven lengths.
A similar feat was achieved by Sir Michael Stoute’s Allegretto in 2008, who won by six lengths. This first crop of Galileo offspring was never under pressure in the race and impressively, she is the second fiveyear-old to win the race This race has not been won often by such a great distance and with such ease. In 2016, Simple Verse came from the back of the field, with not much room but a single burst of speed space led to her winning by a Loneck.oking back further in the Park Hill Stakes archive, May Hill is a notable winner Slow to her form, she didn’t show much as a two-year-old. However, in late 1975 she emerged as a top-class filly, first winning the Yorkshire Oaks and then going on to win the Park Hill Stakes, here at Doncaster! This resulted in her being ranked the best British filly of her generation.

Use of Screens It is our policy to erect green screens around any horse requiring veterinary attention. This does NOT reflect the severity of any injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse. Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse!
