The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

THE DONCASTER CUP THE FEATURE RACE OF TODAY’S CARD IS THE CORAL DONCASTER CUP STAKES (CLASS 1) WORTH £130,000.00 IN PRIZE MONEY. years, it moved from Cantley Common to Doncaster Racecourse in 1776. Britain’s leading events for “stayers”. This is the final race in the Stayers Since its first running in 1766, this race has become known as one of Triple Crown which is also made up of the Ascot Gold Cup and the Goodwood Cup. This race is even older than the St Leger Stakes by ten To date there is only one horse who has managed to win this racethree times. One of the most impressive runners of the Doncaster Cup Stakes has been Double Trigger. The Mark Johnston trained horse won this race three times in 1995, 1996 and 1998. All three of these wins were with ease and in great style. Only two horses have come near to this incredible feat asTimes Up and Stradivarius have both won this twice. Times Up wonthis in 2012 and 2013 trained by John and Ed Dunlop, his second win in this race was a smoother victory than his first. However, Stradivarius won this both times in style in 2019 and 2021. Last year Stradivarius partnered by Frankie Detorri won with ease having come from the rearof the field to take the Doncaster Cup. Another horse who won with ease was Septimus in 2007 whotracked the leading pair before jockey Johnny Murtagh pushed thebutton and he accelerated to win by 5 lengths. This was one ofIreland’s four winners of the race in recent history. Stradivarius 2021 WINNER
