WELCOME TO HEREFORD RACECOURSE

Welcome to Hereford for Christmas Jumper raceday, one of our most popular fixtures of the year. For those (adults and children!) that have dug out their favourite festive top please gather around the Winner’s Enclosure after the third race where we will be judging the best Christmas Jumper. We are delighted today to be partnering with Save The Children, who protect children to ensure they not only survive but thrive. Please donate generously if you are able to, and enjoy their choir singing Christmas carols around the enclosure before racing starts. Today sees Poniente run for the Hereford Racehorse Ownership Club and we hope members enjoy their day. It really does offer tremendous value at just £299 for a lease share and associated exclusive benefits plus 2022 ARC membership gaining FREE admission to 500+ fixtures next year. Details can be found further in the racecard. Whilst 2021 has been a year of ups and downs and plenty of uncertainty remains around the ongoing impact of Covid-19, the one certainty has been the quality of racing enjoyed at Hereford. It really is grass roots Jump racing at its best and we are grateful for the support of Owners and Trainers in running their horses with us and for racegoers who show such passion and knowledge for racing at Hereford. Early 2022 season highlights include Six Nations Saturday on Saturday 12th March, Ladies Day on Friday 25th March and Dino Day on Sunday 3rd April. Before then, I hope you enjoy today and wish you a Happy Christmas followed by a prosperous and healthy New Year.

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race. Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

hope.

Unlikely to win but not totally without Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. for novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

A winner on yard debut at Worcester in October, THE TOOJUMPA looked set to go close again when unseating 3 out at Chepstow 3 weeks ago and she’s worth siding with to prove herself still on a handy mark.
