WELCOME TO HEREFORD RACECOURSE
Welcome to Hereford Racecourse. Welcome to Hereford Racecourse, I hope you enjoy your day. I would like to extend a particularly warm welcome to the Partners and guests of the Hereford Business Club today from Harrison Clark Rickerbys, Acer and Jelf. They have been extremely patient over the past 18 months as racedays were cancelled and entertaining dates postponed, on more than one occasion! Likewise today we welcome Central Roofing, leading experts in the field of roofing, who have been commercial partners for a number of years and whose Hereford base is a stone’s throw away from here. The support and investment of local businesses like these are so valuable to a small racecourse like Hereford. The newly formed Hereford Racehorse Ownership Club continues to go from strength to strength and we enjoyed our first ever winner with Poniente last week at Fontwell. A memorable day for members, and especially those that travelled to cheer her home in front in person. To find out more visit www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk. Our next fixture is Sunday 27th February so if you are looking for a final hurrah at the end of half term week then do come and join us. U18s are free when accompanied by an adult at all fixtures. We then look ahead to March with Super Irish Saturday on 12th March and Ladies Day with live music on Friday 25th March. The curtain closes on our 2021/2022 season on Sunday 3rd April with Dino Family Fun Day so as you can see there is plenty to enjoy here over the next few weeks. Finally, I’d like to thank the stablestaff today for all of their hard work, care and passion for the horses. I hope that each and every one enjoys their visit today and goes home safely.

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race. Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
hope.
Unlikely to win but not totally without Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. for novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

This looks wide open despite the small field and it may pay to side with SOUTHERN SAM. He shaped as if retaining his ability on the back of a lengthy absence when third over shorter at Ffos Las in December and, with the step back up in trip a likely plus, he gets the nod to build on that. Tide Times and Fuji Flight are others worth considering.
