WELCOME TO HEREFORD RACECOURSE

Welcome to Hereford Racecourse. Welcome to Hereford Racecourse, I hope you enjoy your day. We were pleased to escape the recent storms relatively unscathed with only minor damage on track and around the enclosures. However, it was a reminder again of the power of nature and how little we can do to stop it or stand in its way. Let’s hope for a mild and sunny Spring as we loom forward to our bigger March fixtures. Our next raceday is Super Irish Saturday featuring Six Nations on Saturday 12th March. New this year is the Six Nations Premier Enclosure, which has a capped capacity, and includes a private bar and food offering, arrival drink and big screens to watch all 6 Nations matches. Guests will also get into the spirit with our complimentary Irish novelty hats, and there is live Irish music around the enclosures too. Ladies Day has a new date and moves to Friday 25th March so why not take a long weekend and start it in style with our Bottomless Brunch & Prosecco in Rusty Bridge. There’s also a fabulous Fancy Fizz package and live music during and after racing. The curtain comes down on this season with our much-anticipated Dino Family Raceday on Sunday 3rd April. Walk with dinosaurs, be a dino ranger, take part in the dinosaur egg hunt or relax and enjoy dino story time plus much more. Don’t forget U18s come racing for FREE to all fixtures and there will be few better value or better entertainment family days on offer this year. The next few weeks are critical in the jump season and we shall be watching closely to see which Hereford winners go on to glory at the bigger Spring racing Festivals. We are very proud of the small part we play in plotting the route to glory for horses and in seeing the stars of the future often run here in the early parts on their season and careers. Enjoy racing today and enjoy the thrill and excitement of the weeks ahead. It’s a great time of year.

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race. Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

hope.

Unlikely to win but not totally without Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. for novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

An interesting race of its type featuring a couple of unexposed runners. Preference is for THE STREET, who beat next time out winner Eaton Collina on his handicap debut last time and meets that rival on similar terms again here. Eaton Collina himself is also improving and is considered, whilst Hipop des Ongrais may remain ahead of his new mark after impressing at Uttoxeter on his handicap bow. 1-2-3: 1.THE STREET (IRE) 2.HIPOP DES ONGRAIS (FR) 3.EATON COLLINA (IRE) KEY colours

CORONADO JOE relished the stiffer stamina test when opening his account at Fontwell and a 7lb rise shouldn’t prevent Chris Gordon’s promising young stayer from following up here. Bert Wilson showed the benefit of cheekpieces when posting an excellent fourth at Ffos Las and is feared most with the headgear retained, while Sweet Spirit still has few miles on the clock and can have a say too.

EBONELLO shaped well when third starting out at Ludlow last month and, with that race well advertised by the winner and the second scoring next time, there’s clear substance to that form. She looks the way to go unless there’s strong market support for Game Winner representing Paul Nicholls. Donaire is also of interest. 1-2-3: 1.EBONELLO (IRE) 2.GAME WINNER (FR) 3.DONAIRE (IRE) KEY colours
