Welcome to Hereford for Christmas Jumper Raceday, one of our most popular fixtures of the year.

Thank you to today’s sponsors Vickers Bet for their generous support, and to all who have supported Hereford Racecourse over the past 12 months

If you have dug out your favourite festive top to help keep you warm today, please gather around the Winner’s Enclosure after the third race where we will be judging the best Christmas Jumper. There are prizes for both adults and children so please don’t be shy!

Today brings the curtain down on racing at Hereford for 2022 but we’ll be back early in the New Year with the first fixture on Wednesday 4th January. Our grass roots season then rolls through the early months leading to Ladies Day on Saturday 11th March with the season drawing to a close with Dino Family Fun Raceday once again on Thursday 6th April.

Best priced tickets are always those bought in advance and the popular Day At The Races package which includes admission, racecard, warm pie and a drink often sells out for each fixture within days of being released so be sure to book early next year at www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk

For those still looking for the perfect Christmas present for friends or family, the Hereford Racehorse Ownership Club offer tremendous value at just £299 for a lease share of a horse in training with Venetia Williams, associated exclusive benefits plus 2023 ARC membership gaining FREE admission to 500+ fixtures next year

I hope you enjoy racing today, have a very Happy Christmas and look forward to welcoming you back racing next year.

Best wishes

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating for novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
