As focus this time of year now shifts to the jumps racing festivals in the Spring, we are buoyed by that excitement felt by racegoers in attendance throughout the next coming months, especially on our Ladies Day which takes place on Saturday 11th March before Cheltenham week. With Best Dressed Competitions for Ladies & Couples, live music, and the Six Nations rugby screened in bars, not to mention a competitive seven race card there really is something for everyone to enjoy that day.
For those that have already enjoyed a Day At The Races package this season I’m sure you will appreciate the value this package gives, with admission, racecard, hot pie and drink included These packages are available for all remaining fixtures and must be purchased 7 days in advance of the raceday, but numbers are limited so would encourage you to book early to avoid disappointment.
For the eagle-eyed you may spot a different signature at the end of this introduction as after 6 years here as Executive Director, Rebecca Davies now moves to Head of Racing Industry Partners within ARC. This means I will now take the helm here at Hereford after my time in an operations role. I would like to personally thank Rebecca for all her support and guidance since the racecourse re-opened and wish her all the success in her new role. We strive to offer a friendly, authentic jumps racing experience for both dedicated racing fans and those new to the sport, and always value your feedback Enjoy
you for joining us this Monday 16th January, which also marks the halfway point of our 2022/2023 season at Hereford, we
you
with us.
Thank
hope
have an enjoyable afternoon
here today with us
racing
Best wishes.

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating,
TheBHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses oncetheyhave taken partina sufficientnumber of racestoenable the Handicappers to make anumerical assessmentofeach horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weighttobecarried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participantwithan equal chance based on its best recentformunder itsoptimum conditions.
Ahorse rated100, forexample, would be set to carry 1lb morethan ahorse rated99(ignoringany penalties or allowances). Theratings published in the racecardfor handicap racesare the ratings thatwereused to calculate the weighttobecarried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps racesthe rating shown is thatofeach runner at the time thatthe entries forthe race were confirmed.Any subsequently published change to arating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.for novicesteeplechasers, the latest hurdle race rating maybeshown until such time as the Handicappers allot aseparatesteeple chase rating.Such ratings areprefixed by the letter h.

(Penalty Value £9822.66) JET PLANE was on the backfoot from an early stage in last month’s Lincolnshire National at Market Rasen, yet it was hard not to be impressed with his facile C&D victory previously and he gets the narrow vote to bounce back with the prospect of better still to come in this sphere. City Chief, who shaped better than the distance beaten suggests on his respective return/chase debut at Exeter, can emerge as the chief danger
