Thank you for joining us this Wednesday 15th February at Hereford Racecourse.

Today we welcome Racing to School, an educational charity that combines the on-course racing experience with numeracy and literacy tasks We have sixty children from the local primary school with us today and hope they enjoy their tour of the racecourse and racing action. As all under 18’s go free on any raceday here at Hereford, we would be delighted to see them and their families return on a future occasion.

With the unseasonably dry weather causing various challenges for all racecourses currently, we are all looking to how the future seasons will be shaped and inevitably our role in climate and sustainability. One small step we have taken here is the introduction of the Eco-cup in the main bars, and we thank racegoers for their co-operation in this scheme which can only be positive in the reduction of single use plastics There are of course many more steps, of varying scale, to be taken as an industry moving forward over the next few years.

We next race here on Sunday 26th February and do still have limited availability remaining in our Snaffles restaurant. With balcony views across the finishing straight it offers a fantastic viewpoint of all the racing action, together with a three-course lunch to enjoy with your friends and family. Our website www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk also gives up to date availability and pricing for all fixtures.

Enjoy your day with us

Can be given little or no chance

TheBHA Handicappers allot ratings to horsesoncethey have taken partinasufficientnumber of racestoenable the Handicappers to make anumerical assessmentofeach horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weighttobecarried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participantwithanequal chance based on its best recentformunder its optimum conditions

Ahorse rated100, forexample, would be set to carry 1lb morethan ahorse rated99(ignoringany penalties or allowances). Theratings published in the racecardfor handicap racesare the ratings thatwereused to calculate the weighttobecarried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps racesthe rating shown is thatofeach runner at the time thatthe entries forthe race were confirmed.Any subsequently published change to arating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.for novicesteeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating maybeshown until such time as the Handicappers allot aseparatesteeple chase rating.Such ratings areprefixed by the letter h.
