WELCOME TO HEREFORD RACECOURSE
Thank you for joining us for racing this Monday 15th January, sponsored by Planet Sport Bet. This also marks the halfway point of our 2023/2024 season at Hereford, we hope you have an enjoyable afternoon with us. As focus this time of year now shifts to the jumps racing festivals in the Spring, we are buoyed by that excitement felt by racegoers in attendance throughout the next coming months, especially on our Ladies Day which takes place on Saturday 9th March before Cheltenham week. With Best Dressed Competitions for Ladies & Couples, live music, the Six Nations rugby screened in bars and a competitive 7 race card, there really is something for everyone to enjoy that day. For those that have already enjoyed a Day At The Races package this season I’m sure you will appreciate the value this package gives, with admission, a racecard, a hot pie and a drink included. These packages are available for all remaining fixtures and must be purchased 7 days in advance of the raceday, but numbers are limited so we encourage you to book early to avoid disappointment. As we recover from the effects of recent storms and flooding, it looks like a colder front of weather joins us this week. We would like to thank our groundstaff, and clerks up and down the country, who work tirelessly in these conditions battling what the elements throw at us! We next race here on Monday 29th January and hope you can join us then too. Best Wishes
Camilla Esling General Manager

HORSE AND JOCKEY WELFARE AT HEREFORD
Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital. It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk.
LITTER
Please help us keep Hereford Racecourse tidy by disposing of your litter and old betting slips in the bins provided.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Flash photography is not permitted at any time. Press and Commercial photographers must pre-arrange the necessary permission with the racecourse office at least 7 days before the race meeting. Amateur photographers are only permitted to take photographs in the areas normally open to the public and should not encroach upon areas specifically designated for or used by professional photographers. Professional filming and photography takes place here at Hereford Racecourse for various publications and broadcasting, and racegoers (including families) consent to being filmed, photographed and otherwise recorded by Hereford Racecourse or any third party authorised by Hereford Racecourse.
SAFETY
In the interests of public safety all visitors to the Racecourse should follow directions of the Safety Stewards on the Stands and the Raceday Staff throughout the racecourse. Please do not leave bags or your possessions unattended at any time as this could cause a security alert. The racecourse reserves the right to ask anyone clearly under the influence of alcohol to leave at any time. Racegoers are requested to be particularly aware of their personal safety in all areas where they come into close contact with the horses, such as the parade ring and the horse walks.

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: Selected to win the race. Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
hope.
Unlikely to win but not totally without Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. for novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

There was plenty to like about JACOBIN’s debut effort at Chepstow so he’s preferred to dual runner-up King of Tara in a bumper which may develop into a straight fight between that pair unless the betting vibes are strong surrounding Dan Skelton newcomer Mokoro.
