WELCOME TO HEREFORD RACECOURSE
Welcome to Hereford Racecourse for an afternoon of jumps racing, kindly sponsored by Planet Sport Bet.
As we near April and hope for Spring to make an appearance, we are preparing for the latter end of our season, and we have good news! Due to the flooding experienced over the winter months at our neighbouring Worcester racecourse, they require an extended period of time to ensure their track is back to its’best, so we have now gained two additional fixtures in May. These will be the evening of Tuesday 7th May, and the afternoon of Monday 13th May. You can book tickets now for both of these and of course ARC Annual Members will still receive complimentary admission to those fixtures
Our feature fixture next month is Countryside Raceday on Sunday 14th April. We have plenty of entertainment to look forward to for all ages, including the ‘Quack Pack’, local hound parade and a parade of Retrained Racehorses There will be bouncy castles, face painting and a treasure hunt for children, remember accompanied under 18’s go free to all fixtures and we have also launched a fantastic Family Package for 2 adults, 2 children, 2 ice creams and racecards all for £40! We hope to see you then for a day celebrating the countryside and Herefordshire, so visit our website www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk to get your tickets now!
We hope you have an enjoyable day with us today, we will see you next for racing on Tuesday 9th April.
Best wishes,
Camilla Esling General ManagerIMPORTANT INFORMATION

HORSE AND JOCKEY WELFARE AT HEREFORD
Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital
It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
Selected to win the race
Good chance of being placed
By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
Unlikely to win but not totally without hope Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating for novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
You must be 18 or over to place a bet
You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet
If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

HORSE AND JOCKEY WELFARE AT HEREFORD
Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site.
An open contest but Jonjo O’Neill’s CAWTHORNE BANKER looks to start life in handicaps on a good mark so this fairly useful bumper performer gets the vote.
