Proud Champions of the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme All of our member racecourses participate in the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme, a nationwide initiative for those with disabilities that may not be visible. A sunflower lanyard discretely signals to staff that the person wearing the lanyard may need additional support or a little more time when attending racedays. Guests are welcome to bring their own lanyards or to register in advance by contacting the racecourse they’ll be attending. Sunflower lanyards can also be collected at certain entrance points. If you would like more information, please ask a member of staff.

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HIIII Can be given little or no chance. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
WHERE TO BET There are a variety of places to bet at the course; The Tote has selling points throughout the racecourse - easily identified by the Tote Betting or totepool signs. The bookmakers are located in front of the grandstand in the ‘Betting Ring’. The bookmakers display their odds for each race and compete to offer the best price to customers. These are fixed price bets and the amount of your winnings will be printed on your betting slip. Search around to get the best price for your selection. Mimimum Stakes The Tote has a minimum bet of £2. The bookmakers vary but if they have a minimum it will be shown on the boards displaying their odds. If in doubt – just ask.

BETTING FORECAST: 6-5 St Mark’s Basilica, 7-4 Tarnawa, 11-4 Poetic Flare, 20 Patrick Sarsfield. A small but select line-up and, with tactics likely to play a significant role, ST MARK’S BASILICA may hold the aces. The Dewhurst Stakes winner is bidding for a fifth successive Group 1 success having landed both French classics this term and cemented his reputation with a brilliant turn of foot to beat Addeybb and Mishriff in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown. That may prove a crucial weapon here with Ryan Moore likely to play his cards in the straight. Tarnawa won three times at the highest level last year including over this trip on testing ground at Longchamp and landed the odds in style on her reappearance here last month. Some rain would boost her chance while Poetic Flare relishes a fast surface as evidenced by victories in the Qipco 2000 Guineas and a top class effort in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. It will be fascinating to see how he copes with this extra quarter mile. Dual course winner Patrick Sarsfield looks outclassed.

Charlie Appleby can secure a first St Leger win with Irish Derby hero HURRICANE LANE who spreadeagled his field in the Grand Prix de Paris and holds a clear form edge. There is little to worry about on the score of his stamina too with his dam a 2m winner. Gordon Stakes victor Ottoman Emperor looks the one to chase him home, with The Mediterranean appealing as the pick of Aidan O’Brien’s quartet.

A few with chances, but BOBBY KENNEDY is fancied to return from a break in style and bag a second win of 2021 off a handy-looking mark. Wadacre Gogo arrives on the back of a career-best success at Wolverhampton so rates a big threat, while Knight of Kings and Jerriais are likely to have a say too in an open handicap.

YORKINDNESS holds a clear edge on form here and looks to have been found a good opportunity to open her account at the third atttempt after two solid third placings. Ayr-third Nikhi will benefit from the step up to 1m so rates the chief threat, although a market move for either of the two newcomers Ladypacksapunch and Sweet Melody would put a slightly different slant on things. 1-2-3: 1.YORKINDNESS 2.NIKHI 3.LADYPACKSAPUNCH KEY colours
