A preview of today’s race card by Chad Yeomans of Betway.

1

Percy Jones and Untold Mystery have both shown enough so far to suggest that they could be competitive in a race of this nature. Both horses should be ridden differently to the way they were last time out, but they can each go close.

2

Park Street has three runs to his name but has since been gelded, which suggested something was bugging him. If that surgery has brought out improvement, then he should take all of the beating. Ae Fond Kiss could improve from her first run, as she could be suited by a quicker surface.

3

Two horses catch the eye in this contest. Villeurbanne looks well handicapped on what he’d shown for his previous trainer and he could be in the shake-up. Delicate Kiss is a course-and-distance winner who will be suited by this drop back to 1m after failing to stay over 1m2f last time.

4

If Indeed puts it all together, he has the class to win in this grade. He’s 10lbs lower than his highest mark and while he’s not raced much of late, he’s got natural talent and has won on a synthetic surface before. Corazon Espinado’s second at Epsom last time was a good performance and he too can go well.

5

If she’s come on for her recent run at Newcastle, Desert Lime should take all of the beating. She went off odds-on last week and found it happening too quickly, but with that run under her belt, she can be successful in this contest. It’s Wonderful has shown enough to suggest she can chase her home.

6

Bird For Life goes well at Lingfield and has the assistance of Charlie Bennett on her back again. She’s more than capable of winning in this grade off a mark of 55. Hannalite has been crying for this step up in trip and can also go well under the experienced Rab Havlin.

7

The Betway Golden Rose Stakes is a competitive listed contest. Bahrain Pride and Fivethousandtoone were both highly tried last season and could still be better than this grade. Jouska may not have her ideal conditions today, but she has plenty of natural talent and can run well on her day.

8

Pyledriver is the class act on show. He’s a Group 1 winner and been running at the top level for a long period of his career. If he’s fully fur for this assignment, he’ll take all of the beating under top class rider, Martin Dwyer. The ultra-consistent Fox Tal can chase him home for Betway ambassador Andrew Balding.

This looks wide open and it could pay to side with PISTOLETTO. He’s been resurgent under today’s pilot of late, winning 2 of his last 4 starts, and very much caught the eye when fourth over further at Kempton 12 days ago, finishing best having been denied a run early in the straight. He gets the nod, with Chance, One Small Step and Young Fire a trio of others to consider. 1-2-3: 1.PISTOLETTO (USA) 2.CHANCE 3.ONE SMALL STEP (IRE) KEY colours

RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (16-21): M Johnston (85 wins from 420 runners, 20%) runs THE LAST LION TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): M Johnston (5 wins from 41 runners, 12%) runs THE LAST LION LONGEST TRAVELLER: MANJEER trained by Mlle C Fey, France. RACE SUMMARY

GOOD EFFORT is best excused a blip in America last month and his record on synthetics is really impressive, so he gets the marginal vote ahead of Harry’s Bar, who is a classy operator when the run of the race plays to his strengths. The Last Lion is an intriguing contender back from an unsuccessful time at stud. 1-2-3: 1.GOOD EFFORT (IRE) 2.HARRY’S BAR 3.THE LAST LION (IRE) KEY colours

PYLEDRIVER has a 6-month absence to overcome, but he’s the class act in this field and is taken to prove that point by conceding weight all round.
