Horse & Jockey Welfare at Lingfield Park Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture

to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital. It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www. lingfieldpark.co.uk

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

WHERE TO BET There are a variety of places to bet at the course; The Tote has selling points throughout the racecourse - easily identified by the Tote Betting or totepool signs. The bookmakers are located in front of the grandstand in the ‘Betting Ring’. The bookmakers display their odds for each race and compete to offer the best price to customers. These are fixed price bets and the amount of your winnings will be printed on your betting slip. Search around to get the best price for your selection. Minimum Stakes The Tote has a minimum bet of £2. The bookmakers vary but if they have a minimum it will be shown on the boards displaying their odds. If in doubt – just ask.

RACE SUMMARY

Olly Murphy does very well in bumpers so JURI gets the nod to make a winning debut, with confidence in his chance increased should the betting vibes be strong. Land of Moon and Jasper Boy, who represents last year’s winning yard, are other newcomers who make paper appeal, while Hughie Morrison’s Gallant Approach has been given time since finishing well held in a Cheltenham Listed bumper on his debut on New Year’s Day and it wouldn’t be a shock were he to prove a different proposition now.

Handicap-debutants CHANDLERS BAY and Celtic Ned are both appealing, with marginal preference for Alan King’s charge who went close in a decent Plumpton maiden on his final start of last season and he is armed with potential. Celtic Ned was beaten only by a highly promising stablemate of Chandlers Bay over C&D 11 days ago and should pick up a race soon enough. Artistic Endeavour and Tintintin both contested a big-field Cheltenham handicap last month and they merit respect, along with Clongowes. 1-2-3: 1.CHANDLERS BAY (IRE) 2.CELTIC NED (IRE) 3.ARTISTIC ENDEAVOUR KEY colours

Several to consider in this competitive handicap and ROCCO ROYALE could be the answer. Colonial Empire is next on the list on the back of a creditable effort at Musselburgh, while French-import Joker de Mai, the selection’s stablemate Brook Bay and unexposed Hallwood are others to consider.

ART DECCO has plenty of form on testing ground and he’s fancied to build on last month’s pleasing Chepstow return. Felton Bellevue, Shot Boii and Heaven Smart all made the frame over C&D 11 days ago and that trio should also be in the mix again. 1-2-3: 1.ART DECCO 2.FELTON BELLEVUE (FR) 3.SHOT BOII (IRE) KEY colours

Br g Dapper - Lewesdon Duchess (Alhaatmi) Buckingham, Chapman, Langford & Ritzema Br Mrs Rachel Dawson

Angus Cheleda (5) Robert Walford, Blandford Tote

TIMEFORM VIEW Made up into a better chaser than hurdler last season, opening his account at the fourth attempt over fences in handicap at Fontwell (21.6f) in January. Posted solid third on return at Chepstow (23.6f, heavy) last month and looks one of likelier contenders here. TFRHHHHH BHA105

12-0

Alan Johns Tim Vaughan, Cowbridge Dragonbet

TIMEFORM VIEWPlaced in both Irish points and bright start under Rules, unsurprisingly improving for switch to chasing when narrowly on top close home at Taunton last winter. Shaped as if he’d come on for the run when fourth at Chepstow on return and he’s not discounted with an outing now under his belt. TFRHHHII BHA105

TIMEFORM VIEW Ran at least as well as he had done over hurdles on his second start chasing when third of 15 in handicap (9/1) at this C&D (good to soft) 11 days ago. Finished clear of the remainder that day and he may do better still. TFRHHHHI BHA105

TIMEFORM VIEW Modest form at best in 5 hurdles starts in the summer. Stamina very much looks his strong suit and he’s worth a market check on chase debut. TFRHHHII BHA104

TIMEFORM VIEW Off the mark in points at fourth attempt and had no problems getting off the mark over hurdles at the second attempt in a weak maiden at Hereford in February. Offered something to work on when third of 15 in handicap (9/1) at this C&D (good to soft) 11 days ago and it’s possible he’ll do better. TFRHHHII BHA104

TIMEFORM VIEW Completed a hurdles hat-trick around 3m last winter and shaped with encouragement sent chasing after a 7-month break (had wind-op) when third of 15 in handicap chase (9/1) at this C&D (good to soft) 11 days ago. Should be sharper now and there’s better to come. TFRHHHHI BHA103

TIMEFORM VIEWStepped up on his seasonal return when third of 15 in handicap chase (9/1) at this C&D (good to soft) 11 days ago. Had a couple of today’s rivals behind there and he’s considered again from 2lb higher mark. TFRHHHHI BHA95

TIMEFORM VIEW Only modest form in 3 hurdles outings last season and shaped as if needing the run when sixth of 11 (10/3) at Plumpton (19.8f, good to soft) on chase/handicap bow. Possible this mark will now prove workable. TFRHHHII BHA91

TIMEFORM VIEW Made the most of a good opportunity to get off the mark over fences at Wincanton (25f, soft) in March. Not in the same form next 2 starts but might have needed the run back over hurdles on return. TFRHHHII BHA81

TIMEFORM VIEWMost fortunate when getting off the mark over hurdles at Plumpton (25f, soft) in April but held his form reasonably well subsequently in that sphere. Hasn’t posed much of a threat over fences in 2 starts to date, though stiffer test of stamina here should suit. TFRHHHII BHA81
