TIMEFORM VIEW Won four hurdle races from 2m 1f to 3m on good to firm ground. Finished about 23l behind Nick’s Choice when fourth of 10 at 3-1 on his latest outing in a hurdle race at Newton Abbot over 2m 6f (good) in April. TFR HHHHI BHA93

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

WHERE TO BET

There are a variety of places to bet at the course; The Tote has selling points throughout the racecourse - easily identified by the Tote Betting or totepool signs

The bookmakers are located in front of the grandstand in the ‘Betting Ring’. The bookmakers display their odds for each race and compete to offer the best price to customers. These are fixed price bets and the amount of your winnings will be printed on your betting slip Search around to get the best price for your selection.

Minimum Stakes

The Tote has a minimum bet of £2. The bookmakers vary but if they have a minimum it will be shown on the boards displaying their odds. If in doubt – just ask.

LONGEST TRAVELLER: SAWPIT SIENNA trained by S Drinkwater, Strensham, 166 miles.

A chance is taken on JACKELINE, who predictably bombed out when tried over 2 3/4m on her reappearance at Stratford but she is interesting judged on her latest effort over this trip at Chepstow where she was third in a decent novice event during the spring. Pennsylvanie and No No Fizz are both likely to benefit from this drop back in trip, too, and they rate the main dangers That said, cases can also be made for the other three in this trappy contest
