TRANSFERS Transfers from the Grandstand and Paddock to the Premier Enclosure are available from the Racecourse Office, opposite the Saddling Shed and from Brandling House.

HORSE WELFARE Here at Newcastle Racecourse nothing matters more to us than looking after the horses that make us the North East’s Premier Racecourse. We do everything in our power to ensure that we provide a racing surface of the highest quality and we take every conceivable care to minimise the chances of horses incurring any injury whilst here.

There are three Veterinary Surgeons here today to ensure that should any horse need help they will be attended to within seconds of any incident occurring. Their first priority is to make a rapid diagnosis and to help them do this our groundstaff team will erect screens around any horse that needs attention. Once the diagnosis is made, one of our horse ambulances will attend the scene and will transport the horse back to the stables where further treatment and assessment can be undertaken. Occasionally, it may be that the nature of the injury is such that a horse is unable to make a recovery. If this is the case the Veterinary team may take the decision to put the horse down straight away. In these circumstances we should remember that the horse’s welfare comes first and that this option is kindest for the horse. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy please visit our website www.newcastle-racecourse.co.uk

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

RACE THREE

Regrettably, as in any highly competitive sport, there are occasions when something goes wrong and horses have to be given the very best veterinary care.

RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (16-21): M Hammond (14 wins from 117 runners, 12%) runs ILAYA TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): D McCain (10 wins from 39 runners, 26%) runs KENSINGTON ART WEIGHTWATCHER: ILAYA won off a handicap mark of 113, her rating is now down 5lb to 108. LONGEST TRAVELLER: KHANMURJAN trained by S Crawford, Ireland. RACE SUMMARY

With her reappearance effort easily excused, a chance is taken on ILAYA. Micky Hammond’s charge was a dual C&D winner back in 2019/20 and, having dropped to an attractive mark, she’s put forward as the answer with her comeback run under her belt. The main threat could be Kensington Art, unpenalised having won a conditionals event at Kempton 10 days ago, ahead of Wor Verge. 1-2-3: 1.ILAYA (FR) 2.KENSINGTON ART 3.WOR VERGE KEY colours
