In the hope that FOR PEAT’S SAKE is a little less free-going than when fourth in the recent C&D race won by Fine Wine, he could be the answer. Michael Appleby’s charge is just 1lb higher than for his breakthrough success here in March and Frederick Larson’s claim will help. The well-related NAVAL CAPTAIN created a good first impression when mastering Tantastic in the shadow of the post over C&D earlier this month. There should be plenty more to come and he is taken to follow up. HORSE WELFARE Here at Newcastle Racecourse nothing matters more to us than looking after the horses that make us the North East’s Premier Racecourse. We do everything in our power to ensure that we provide a racing surface of the highest quality and we take every conceivable care to minimise the chances of horses incurring any injury whilst here. Regrettably, as in any highly competitive sport, there are occasions when something goes wrong and horses have to be given the very best veterinary care. There are three Veterinary Surgeons here today to ensure that should any horse need help they will be attended to within seconds of any incident occurring. Their first priority is to make a rapid diagnosis and to help them do this our groundstaff team will erect screens around any horse that needs attention. Once the diagnosis is made, one of our horse ambulances will attend the scene and will transport the horse back to the stables where further treatment and assessment can be undertaken. Occasionally, it may be that the nature of the injury is such that a horse is unable to make a recovery. If this is the case the Veterinary team may take the decision to put the horse down straight away. In these circumstances we should remember that the horse’s welfare comes first and that this option is kindest for the horse. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy please visit our website www.newcastle-racecourse.co.uk

RACE SUMMARY This trip should within the range of DAJARUS, who proved that her breakthrough success here at the beginning of the month was no fluke when a clear second at Wolverhampton recently. A 3lb rise for that looks fair enough and she makes plenty of appeal.
