RACE SUMMARY

A competitive opener with the narrow vote in favour of SEAGULLS NEST. She ran her best race yet for Mick Appleby when fourth over this trip at Southwell 23 days ago, that despite the steady gallop being against her. Operating from a career-low mark/down in class she could well be the answer. Termonator, Paddy Elliott and the returning Autonomy are others to consider. 1-2-3: 1.SEAGULLS NEST 2.TERMONATOR 3.PADDY ELLIOTT (IRE) KEY colours

HORSE WELFARE Here at Newcastle Racecourse nothing matters more to us than looking after the horses that make us the North East’s Premier Racecourse. We do everything in our power to ensure that we provide a racing surface of the highest quality and we take every conceivable care to minimise the chances of horses incurring any injury whilst here. Regrettably, as in any highly competitive sport, there are occasions when something goes wrong and horses have to be given the very best veterinary care. There are three Veterinary Surgeons here today to ensure that should any horse need help they will be attended to within seconds of any incident occurring. Their first priority is to make a rapid diagnosis and to help them do this our groundstaff team will erect screens around any horse that needs attention. Once the diagnosis is made, one of our horse ambulances will attend the scene and will transport the horse back to the stables where further treatment and assessment can be undertaken. Occasionally, it may be that the nature of the injury is such that a horse is unable to make a recovery. If this is the case the Veterinary team may take the decision to put the horse down straight away. In these circumstances we should remember that the horse’s welfare comes first and that this option is kindest for the horse. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy please visit our website www.newcastle-racecourse.co.uk 23

This may rest between last-time-out winners KNOCKABOUT QUEEN and Won Love. This isn’t a two-horse race by any means, though, as cases can be constructed for the likes of Jems Bond, Penombre and Qaaraat, too.
