FAN CAMWelcome to Newcastle Racecourse for Week 4 of the Racing League, sponsored by William Hill
The Racing League is an exciting team-based competition between 7 regional teams, who will compete over 6 Thursday evenings at ARC racecourses around the country. Teams will compete against each other and fight for valuable points to boost them up the league table The team with the highest number of points at the final hosted at Southwell on Thursday 13th September will become the 2023 Racing League Champions
After the first four fixtures, last year’s winners Wales and the West maintain a firm lead on this year’s Racing League London and the South currently sit in second place, Ireland third; followed by the North, the East, Yorkshire and Scotland in that order Comprehensive updates will be relayed to you throughout the evening
The teams score their points based upon the finishing positions of the horses during the course of all the races on the card. Expect plenty of fun and banter between the jockeys and trainers as well as their respective managers, who also have the difficult job of deciding which horses to run and who will ride them.
We have an evening full of entertainment for all the family, including face painting, a treasure hunt, inflatables, prize giveaways, a thigh squat challenge and the opportunity to meet the team members
From the team and I here at Newcastle Racecourse, we wish you all an enjoyable and successful evening at the racecourse
Good luck!

The Racing League Joker Card
A new innovation introduced in Racing League 2022 allows each of the managers of the seven competing teams having the opportunity to play a Joker in any two of the 42 races when there are at least 12 horses running.
The Joker doubles the points won by the two horses representing the team in a given race. When played, the team receives double points in that given race but it is not applied to individual jockey points.
The team manager will announce their intention to play a Joker in the Paddock, directly before the selected race This is done by placing a Joker card alongside the team name on the scoreboard in the Paddock.

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

RACE SUMMARY
An ultra-competitive opener to week 4 of the Racing League and at forecast longer odds, MUZAFFAR gets the verdict to double his tally back up in trip having been given a chance by the handicapper
The main threat may emerge from Lizzie Jean, who has hit the crossbar on her last couple of starts and may have to settle for silver once again. The in-form Tafsir and recent C&D winner Wynter Wildes can do battle for third spot.

DAN DEE PRINCE showed much improved form to get off the mark at the sixth time of asking at Leicester last week and provided he takes to a synthetic surface, Tom Dascombe’s gelding can follow up under a penalty. Classy Clarets was picked off only late on by one from the rear over C&D recently, so he’s fancied to give the selection most to think about, ahead of I’m Puzzled, who remains with potential now sent down the nursery route.

A winner at Musselburgh in July, YAASER has shaped as if still in top form subsequently, having little go correct when runner-up over this trip at Doncaster 12 days ago (nicely on top of remainder). RACE SUMMARY
Several to consider in this competitive handicap, headed by CHAMPAGNE SARAH. She has proved consistent this season and was unlucky not to notch a third success of the campaign when going close at Newmarket where she was denied a clear run at a crucial stage Irish raider Nordic Passage’s turn is surely near and is a much-respected main danger ahead of the unexposed Hydration. HORSE WELFARE
Here at Newcastle Racecourse nothing matters more to us than looking after the horses that make us the North East’s Premier Racecourse We do everything in our power to ensure that we provide a racing surface of the highest quality and we take every conceivable care to minimise the chances of horses incurring any injury whilst here.
Regrettably, as in any highly competitive sport, there are occasions when something goes wrong and horses have to be given the very best veterinary care.
There are three Veterinary Surgeons here today to ensure that should any horse need help they will be attended to within seconds of any incident occurring. Their first priority is to make a rapid diagnosis and to help them do this our groundstaff team will erect screens around any horse that needs attention Once the diagnosis is made, one of our horse ambulances will attend the scene and will transport the horse back to the stables where further treatment and assessment can be undertaken.
Occasionally, it may be that the nature of the injury is such that a horse is unable to make a recovery. If this is the case the Veterinary team may take the decision to put the horse down straight away In these circumstances we should remember that the horse’s welfare comes first and that this option is kindest for the horse.

RACE SUMMARY
LOINGSEOIR chased home an improving 3-y-o in race 14 of this series at Chepstow 3 weeks ago He followed that with a fine second at Roscommon last Tuesday and can deservedly get his head back in front now. Richard Fahey and Oisin Orr have tasted plenty of Racing League success together in August and Hartswood should go well for that in-form pairing. The low-mileage Parlando and Ed Dunlop’s Arthur’s Realm also make the shortlist.

RACE SUMMARY
ROHAAN is the class act in this field and, while his win at this track came from a much lower mark earlier in his career, it was a quite remarkable performance, so he’s worth chancing. Alligator Alley arrives on the back of an excellent effort in a hot race at York and he’s of obvious interest, along with Batal Dubai, who defends an unbeaten course record
