Newcastle Racecard - Saturday 11th November

November Handicap Preview

11:45am- Ayr Poet ran a credible 3rd on the all weather at Newcastle last week. The Jim Goldie gelding has been running consistently well this season and is likely to give another good account of himself now back running off a mark of 68 and stepping back to in distance to 7 furlongs makes him an interesting prospect. Gobi Sunset won over course and distance last time out. He goes up 5lbs for that win but looks a good pace angle to the race. 12:15pm- Eulace Peacock looks the best of these maidens who have had a run and the Dark Angel colt should give a good account of himself here today. Sherman Tank looks an interesting newcomer for David Simcock but a chance is taken with the William Haggas trained Altmore who draws stall 3 today and the well bed colt by Showcasting is expected to give a good account of himself first time out. 12:50pm- Master Of My Fate is likely to improve for stepping up to 6 furlongs and a mark of 83 looks surmountable for the John Quinn filly. Bazball has run well on the all weather winning at Wolverhampton in August over the shorter 5 furlong trip. Beyond Borders is going for a hattrick of wins. He now runs off a higher mark of 82 but still remains a danger. 1.30pm- Veil Of Shadows ran a very good 2nd place last time out in Newmarket Group 3. The Frankel filly looks a big treat here in Listed company and is likely the one to beat. Mukaddamah finished well down the field that day but the soft ground may not have suited her and may be more suited to the all weather track. Sound Angela has won here at Newcastle over one mile and ran a good 3rd on soft ground in a Listed race at Saint-Cloud in September. 2.05pm- A strong pace looks likely here with Sophias Starlight and Sweet Harmony who are both ridden aggressively. The Favourite Sense Of Duty won Group 3 Chipchase Stake in June 2022 and looked a real smart prospect. Albasheer has been running well and shaping better than the result in some very competitive sprint handicaps this year and with the setup of the race in his favour, looks well up to winning at Listed level. 2.40pm- Zoumoon came close to winning her novice race at Salisbury in August. Stall 1 may not be ideal here however. A chance is taken with the nicely bred Grace Taufan on her debut run for trainer Ismail Mohammed. The daughter of Ten Sovereigns is expected to give a good account of herself over this trip and drawn well in stall 4. 3.15pm- Gweedore ran an impressive 3rd place in a big field handicap at York last time out. Jason Hart takes the ride and he looks likely to be in the mix again today. Gisburn should handle this course and ran a very nice race at Kempton last time out. Brewing is lightly raced and looks an unexposed type who has scope for further improvement. He steps back in trip which should be no issue for him and should run well here if fit after a 218 day absence. 3.45pm- Lord Dynasty returns to action here for the first time since being gelded. He looked very consistent last season and ran well during the summer months of this year. There should be plenty more to come from the Charlie Appleby horse and a mark of 101 looks fair. Mr Alan ran a nice race last time out on heavy ground at Newmarket. He looks a likely runner to hit the frame.

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

A tricky opener to solve but preference is for BICEP, who travelled like a dream before finding his stamina running dry over 1m here last week so, now dropping back in trip, Grant Tuer’s 4-y-o can resume winning ways at the expense of Kalganov, who has his first start for Michael Dods and can shrug off a lesser effort at York last month. Honour Your Dreams and the consistent Ayr Poet can battle out minor honours.

Cases can be made for several but at forecast longer odds it could pay to side with BULMER BANK, who wasn’t seen to best effect in a falsely-run race when fourth on nursery debut at York 7 weeks ago and, dropping in grade, he should have more to offer making his all-weather debut. Beyond Borders arrives in top form so he’s put forward as the main danger, ahead of Good Point and Master of My Fate.

HORSE WELFARE Here at Newcastle Racecourse nothing matters more to us than looking after the horses that make us the North East’s Premier Racecourse. We do everything in our power to ensure that we provide a racing surface of the highest quality and we take every conceivable care to minimise the chances of horses incurring any injury whilst here. Regrettably, as in any highly competitive sport, there are occasions when something goes wrong and horses have to be given the very best veterinary care. There are three Veterinary Surgeons here today to ensure that should any horse need help they will be attended to within seconds of any incident occurring. Their first priority is to make a rapid diagnosis and to help them do this our groundstaff team will erect screens around any horse that needs attention. Once the diagnosis is made, one of our horse ambulances will attend the scene and will transport the horse back to the stables where further treatment and assessment can be undertaken. Occasionally, it may be that the nature of the injury is such that a horse is unable to make a recovery. If this is the case the Veterinary team may take the decision to put the horse down straight away. In these circumstances we should remember that the horse’s welfare comes first and that this option is kindest for the horse. ALBASHEER has built a fine record in top-level handicaps since joining Archie Watson and is fancied to make a successful transition to Listed company. Sense of Duty hasn’t really been given the opportunity to show what she is capable of in a limited campaign this season, but was so impressive when winning the Chipchase here last season that she can’t be ruled out, whilst Stewards’Cup winner Aberama Gold is also a player.

A typically competitive renewal of this valuable handicap, tradtionally staged at Doncaster. MR ALAN has raised his game under testing conditions on turf of late and, if able to perform to a similar level back on the all-weather, he could be the answer. Teumessias Fox is 2-4 on synthetics and is capable of a bold show back from a break, while Chillingham, Godolphin’s Local Dynasty and Mustazeed are others to consider.
