WELCOME & MEET THE TEAM
Welcome to Sedgefield Racecourse for 2nd September Afternoon Racing. Welcome back to Sedgefield. We hope you notice a few improvements since you were last here, the newly refurbished parade ring, painted offices and stands and new fences, including a new location for the Open Ditch. It looks like an exciting afternoon of racing ahead. Fergal O’Brien and Paddy Brennan team up in the first, a very successful combination. Sam Twiston-Davies is back again after a successful day here on the 26th Aug, he has a couple of rides for Dr Richard Newland and a couple for his father Nigel. Another eye catcher is Stonific in the 3rd, David O’Meara doesn’t send out many jumpers and with the added bonus of Tom Scudamore on board, he is worth a look. I would like to thank our sponsors this afternoon, thank you for returning to support us in what has been a crazy time for all. Our next race meeting is 28th Sept. Gates open 12pm, 1st race 2pm. As always, I wish you all the very best in picking a few winners and I look forward to welcoming you back to Sedgefield Racecourse again soon. Enjoy and good luck. Emma White GENERAL MANAGER

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
Runswick Days won The Santander In Memory of Robert Forster Handicap Steeple Chase at Sedgefield on Tuesday 11th November 2014.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

LONGEST TRAVELLER: GET AN OSCAR trained by P Bowen, Haverfordwest, 408 miles. RACE SUMMARY
PRESENTING YEATS was well served the increased stamina test when opening his hurdles account at Newton Abbot (26.5f) in July. Again ran well, whilst highlighting the drop back in trip may not have suited ideally when third at Bangor (23f) 9 days ago. This test looks perfect and he can put up another bold showing. Get An Oscar and Aptly Put can also feature.

This will almost certainly boil down to a straight fight between FONTANA ELLISSI and October Storm, with preference for Nigel Twiston-Davies’charge. The 5-y-o was well on top at the finish when landing the odds at Market Rasen and he probably has more to offer. This stiffer test promises to suit October Storm and he will ensure that Fontana Ellissi doesn’t have an easy time of it.
