WELCOME & MEET THE TEAM

Welcome to Sedgefield Racecourse for 6th October Afternoon Racing Welcome back to Sedgefield. We hope you notice a few improvements since you were last here, the newly refurbished parade ring, painted offices and stands and new fences, including a new location for the Open Ditch. It looks like an exciting afternoon of racing ahead. We have three Irish based trainers sending horses today, Gerald Quinn, Paul Gilligan and JR Finn. All have very good chances so certainly worth considering. Just Call Me Al returns in the 2:13pm, a quick return after winning here on the 28th Sept. Christian Williams returns to Sedgefield with two chances in the 2:48pm; he has enjoyed plenty of success at this track so always one to note. I would like to thank our sponsors this afternoon, thank you for returning to support us in what has been a crazy time for all. Our next race meeting is the Durham National on 17th Oct. Gates open 11:45am, 1st race 1:45pm. As always, I wish you all the very best in picking a few winners and I look forward to welcoming you back to Sedgefield Racecourse again soon. Enjoy and good luck. Emma White GENERAL MANAGER

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

Runswick Days won The Santander In Memory of Robert Forster Handicap Steeple Chase at Sedgefield on Tuesday 11th November 2014.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

TURBO has returned from a 4-month break better than ever and remains of firm interest having not been seen to anything like best effect back over fences at Sligo 3 weeks ago. Northern Bound escapes a penalty for a recent win at Bangor, but is taking on slightly tougher opposition, while it’s far from out of the question that Lord Bryan could bounce back.

EQUINE POLICY The safety of horse and rider is of paramount importance to Sedgefield Racecourse. We have a team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a top of the range horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting. It is policy at this racecourse for screens to be erected when a horse requires veterinary treatment on the track. This is to offer some privacy and calm for both horse and vet and does not automatically imply that a fatality has occurred.
