Proud Champions of the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme All of our member racecourses participate in the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme, a nationwide initiative for those with disabilities that may not be visible. A sunflower lanyard discretely signals to staff that the person wearing the lanyard may need additional support or a little more time when attending racedays. Guests are welcome to bring their own lanyards or to register in advance by contacting the racecourse they’ll be attending. Sunflower lanyards can also be collected at certain entrance points. If you would like more information, please ask a member of staff.

WELCOME & MEET THE TEAM

Welcome to Sedgefield Racecourse for 11th November meeting. Welcome back to Sedgefield to our Sprayclad afternoon race day. It is Remembrance Day, we will be respecting the two minutes silence at 11am. We have an Irish raider in the first, Charles Byrnes runs Kendancer with Daryl Jacob booked to ride. However on current form, the formidable partnership of McCain and Hughes is hard to discount, at the time of writing Hughes is 39 winners ahead of his nearest rival in the Jump Jockey Championship. Prolific owner, JP McManus, is mob handed in the 2nd race with three runners. Cilluirid returns for Tim Easterby after an impressive win here on November 4th. We do have a division so we will have seven races today, the Conditional Jockey Handicap Hurdle has divided. Don’t forget to book your Boxing Day tickets online, it’s a cracking family tradition not to be missed! I would like to thank our sponsors this afternoon, thank you for returning to support us in what has been a crazy time for all. Our next race meeting is on November 23rd. Gates open 10:30am, First race 12:40pm. As always, I wish you all the very best in picking a few winners and I look forward to welcoming you back to Sedgefield Racecourse again soon. Enjoy and good luck.

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

Runswick Days won The Santander In Memory of Robert Forster Handicap Steeple Chase at Sedgefield on Tuesday 11th November 2014.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
