Welcome to Sedgefield Racecourse for 16th October Vickersbet Durham National meeting.

Welcome back to Sedgefield. It’s our feature race of the year! The Vickers.bet Proud to Sponsor British Racing Durham National Handicap Chase. Over the bigger obstacles, this 3m 5f chase often provides an epic battle, only the best equine warrior wins this marathon. It looks a great renewal this year, with some quality horses competing. Bbold under the ride of Charlie Hammond has competed in this race before in 2020, and the Ann Duffield trained horse Raddle And Hum has won the last twice over fences, the most recent win coming at Kelso on 2nd October It should be a cracking race today.

As well as the big race we have an exciting afternoon of racing ahead. Donald McCain, Brian Ellison and Micky Hammond, all big supporters of Sedgefield have runners.

I would like to thank our sponsors this afternoon, thank you for returning to support. Our next race meeting is on November 3rd. Gates open 10:42am, 1st race 12:42pm.

As always, I wish you all the very best in picking a few winners and I look forward to welcoming you back to Sedgefield Racecourse again soon.

Enjoy and good luck.

GORDON

Gordon (left) at York races.

In the 1970s-80s Gordon was a bookmaker in Leeholme.

He visited all the racecourses across the UK, attending and following racing for more than 65 years.

It seems a fitting memorial to have this race named after him at his local course. He passed on his enthusiasm to his family who all regularly go racing.

The safety of horse and rider is of paramount importance to Sedgefield Racecourse

We have a team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a top of the range horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting

It is policy at this racecourse for screens to be erected when a horse requires veterinary treatment on the track. This is to offer some privacy and calm for both horse and vet and does not automatically imply that a fatality has occurred.
