THE BET365 SUMMER CUP IS THE RICHEST PRIZE IN THE SUMMER JUMPS CALENDAR WITH A £65,000 PURSE. THE RACE HAS ATTRACTED A QUALITY FIELD WHICH SHOULD MAKE FOR A COMPETITIVE SPECTACLE. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK BET365 FOR THEIR CONTINUED SUPPORT AND SPONSORSHIP FOR THIS RACEDAY. A special mention goes to Eric Coleman who will be with us today celebrating his 100th Birthday!! Eric started working at racecourse in the early 80’s and worked in numerous roles before he eventually had to finally call it a day at an impressive 96 years old!! All of your friends at the racecourse wish you many more years of health and happiness. Tickets for our Ladies Day on Friday 23rd July are selling fast. Along with a DJ set after racing, from TV and radio star Rylan Clark-Neal, we will be running our usual best dressed Ladies competition. With some fabulous prizes up for grabs it gives you a much needed opportunity to get dressed up for what will be a memorable day at the races. Thank you to all of our customers who have visited us during the current restrictions. While some parts of our raceday have been different we have still been able to deliver an enjoyable racing experience and it has been great to have you back. Good luck to you all today and I hope to see you back here on our next meeting on Tuesday the 6th July (evening fixture). BRIAN BARRASS General Manager

RACE SUMMARY
OFCOURSEIWILL was well supported and duly took advantage of a drop in the weights to end a lengthy losing run under this rider at Bangor last month. Admittedly that was a weak contest, but Donald McCain’s charge is taken to follow up and defy a 5-lb rise. Czech Her Out is feared most having stepped up on her reappearance at Hexham last time, ahead of Ragamuffin and Seaborough.

A highly competitive handicap in which marginal preference is for KLOUD GATE who has been much improved since the visor went on and had plenty left in the tank when gaining his most recent success at Huntingdon last month. Dan Skelton’s new recruit Starsky is another who looks ahead of his mark and rates a big danger, with in-form duo South Terrace and Sebastopol two more worth a second look.

ERIC’S 100TH BIRTHDAY
I
t is time to salute another hugely popular figure who has devoted their life to service of their country and racing. The cheers at Royal Ascot last Saturday showed the regard for the Queen, who was not going to let the fact she is 95 stop her getting to the meeting for the first time since 2019. Seven days on we should honour a man who can look on Her Majesty as a mere youngster - indeed, one who should have yesterday received a birthday message from her. Eric Coleman turned 100 yesterday and deserves a proper celebration, for his contribution to our sport and to life in general. Making it to three figures might have seemed odds-against at times during World War Two, when he was caught up in the retreat to El Alamein, bumped into the Japanese at the Battle of Imphal and Kohima and spent time in military hospital with a tropical wasting disease. After the war he ran a grocery shop in Manchester with his wife Jessie for 35 years before they retired to Uttoxeter - where walking his Cavalier King Charles spaniels on course led to his joining the team. A man who found time to run the local cinema while he worked on Mosquito bombers after recovering from that tropical ailment was always likely to make himself useful.
Picking up litter on race days turned into helping out with “odd jobs”, turned into becoming the man on the public address announcements and then becoming parade-ring manager. Jane Gerard-Pearse was commercial manager when Coleman started, a mere stripling in his 70s then, and recalls: “Eric was a happy man. He got on well with everyone because he was friendly and chatty but he loved the racecourse to be tidy!” It is only in the last few years that Coleman has become racegoer rather than racecourse employee - he was still working at 95 - and he says now: “I have seen much change, met some wonderful people, made friends and watched the course go from strength to strength especially when Stan Clarke took over; no wonder he was knighted.” Coleman, a widower for the last two decades, is still to be seen whizzing round the course on his mobility scooter, to the admiration of long-serving Charlie Moore, head of clerking at Arena Racing Company. He says: “All at Uttoxeter are proud to call Eric their friend and congratulate him on reaching 100 years, whilst still being able to have a laugh and a good old natter.”
SIXTH RACE 4.05 TWO MILES ABOUT FOUR FURLONGS (2M 3F 207YDS) FOR FOUR YRS OLD AND UPWARDS

RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (16-21): Dr R Newland (29 wins from 103 runners, 28%) runs GARBANZO TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): Dr R Newland (3 wins from 24 runners, 12%) runs GARBANZO WEIGHT WATCHER: MINELLA MOJO won off a handicap mark of 107, his rating is now down 5lb to 102. LONGEST TRAVELLER: MINELLA MOJO trained by C Down, Cullompton, 177 miles.
RACE SUMMARY
BEGIN THE LUCK has done very well around 2m of late but is certainly bred for further and is selected to continue the good work now stepping up in trip. Bagan will pose a threat if in the same form as when winning at Huntingdon last month. Hunting Percival is also respected, while Rapid Flight could have more to come in handicaps for his top stable.

RACE SUMMARY
INISHBIGGLE is still unexposed and had any amount in hand when off the mark over C&D last time, so he’s marginally preferred to Dal Horrisgle, who has a bit to prove, but could outclass the selection if he’s able to reproduce the pick of his Flat form. Mister Sweets is also considered.
