RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (16-21): D Skelton (87 wins from 320 runners, 27%) runs JET PLANE TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): P Nicholls (10 wins from 34 runners, 29%) runs BROKEN HALO LONGEST TRAVELLER: BADDESLEY trained by C Gordon, Winchester, 154 miles.
RACE SUMMARY
PIPESMOKER sets a useful standard on the pick of his form for Nicky Henderson so he’s the obvious one to beat if taking up this engagement (declared 3.05 Ffos Las Thursday). Baddesley seems likely to build on his hurdling debut third at Fontwell, form which has already been franked, while Tigerbythetail looks another good prospect for Olly Murphy from the bumper sphere.

RACE SUMMARY
TEMUR KHAN has been in great form on the level since he last ran over hurdles so is taken to translate that form back to this sphere and open his hurdling account now. Ten Past Midnight rates a massive threat off the same mark as when scoring at Newton Abbot recently, with Karakoram also in the mix.

KALAHARI KING (FR)
BAY/BROWN GELDING 2001 KAHAYSI – QUEEN OF WARSAW (FR)
It may be unusual for a horse that never ran at Uttoxeter to have a race named in his honour but KALAHARI KING has a close association as his owners are local and great supporters of the Racecourse and their company, PEKTRON Ltd, sponsors again today in addition to being long-standing Box Holders. Kalahari King ran in the red and white quartered colours of his owner Mrs Julie Morgan and took his connections on the journey of a lifetime, becoming a regular sight at the major festivals for over 5 years racing on English turf after his earlier days in France. He is now in retirement at his owners home, where Julie rides him out regularly. His career spanned 49 runs, of which he won 12 and was placed in a further 14. He had career earnings of over £430,000. Kalahari King made an immediate impact on the Jumps scene when he started in the sphere. In his first season he won a valuable race at Musselburgh before making the first of his 5 visits to the Cheltenham Festival, where he finished 4th in the Grade 1 Supreme Novices' Hurdle. He then went on to be placed in the Scottish Champion Hurdle and a few days later won easily at the Punchestown Festival. The following year he won no less than three novice chases en route to Cheltenham for a tilt at the Arkle, where he finished second in a photo-finish. Later, at Aintree, he won the Grade 1 Maghull Novices' Chase in decisive style. Kalahari King made three further trips to Cheltenham, finishing 3rd in the Queen Mother Champion Chase a few weeks after routing the opposition in a Doncaster handicap from a mark of 157, and the following year finishing 2nd in the Ryanair Chase. He was retired in 2012, with his official handicap mark of 163 only just below his career high of 166. The Kalahari King Beginners' Chase race is well-positioned as jump racing heads into its core season and has featured in the development of some good Steeple Chasers in Le Prezien, Top Notch, Charbel, River Wylde and Hell's Kitchen. This year, features the 2019 Supreme Novice Hurdle second Thomas Darby for Olly Murphy. He’s the stand-out name and will have a great chance if taking to fences. His main dangers include Western Ryder who’s a top-class hurdler and Summerville Boy who won the Supreme in 2018 and connections are hoping he’ll recapture his form over fences. We thank PEKTRON for their support of the race from which it is hoped a future star may develop.
IN MEMORY OF ROY CO U C H MAN
Roy Couchman 1952-2021 Roy loved his racing and particularly National Hunt - and for most of his life, Uttoxeter was his local NH racecourse. He attended his first Uttoxeter meeting in the late 1950’s - with his mum & dad (Tom & Mary) and his grandparents (Tom & Nell/ Ellen Wardle). In the 60’s & 70’s - the group extended to include his younger sister and brother (Ellen & Arthur). From the 80’s onwards - Roy would have been here sometimes with his family and sometimes with his closest friends. But whatever the crowd - he thoroughly enjoyed every single moment of every race meeting he ever attended (even the losing days, which he claimed were very few and far between). On a winning day - it has always been a family tradition, across the generations, to buy strawberries & cream on the way home. There are 30 of Roy’s closest family & friends here today to cheer the winner home - of what is hopefully a fitting memorial to a truly wonderful man. We wish all the owners, trainers, jockeys and horses the very best of luck - as well as of course you the punters and let’s hope for plenty of strawberries & cream on the way home!

RACE SUMMARY
All five can be given a chance, but Paul Nicholls has his string in fine nick so FLIC OU VOYOU is fancied to go in at the first time of asking over fences given he looks the type to improve in this sphere and will strip fitter for a recent spin over hurdles. Former stablemate Fast Buck is feared most on his debut for Dan Skelton, while Minella Drama is another chasing debutant well in the mix.

RACE SUMMARY
CARO DES FLOS was well on top at the finish when opening his chase account at Worcester in June and this 7lb higher mark may well be within reach. He is marginally preferred to Joly Maker, who was just touched off at Bangor last month and Kevin Brogan’s 3lb claim will again prove valuable. Tudors Treasure and Maasai Warrior are others to consider, in that order of preference.

Look out for the charity Racing to School today; you shouldn’t miss them as they will be leading a group of local pupils and their teachers through every corner of the racecourse for an action-packed day of fun challenges and discovery. The charity works nationwide with over 250 schools, and in this its 20th anniversary year will reach around 9,000 young people – at UK racecourses, trainers’ yards and studs. They deliver free, outdoor activity days to support the learning and to boost the self-confidence of children aged nine and above. Racing to School uses racing venues as unique, fast-moving classrooms full of opportunities to practise and improve subjects like maths, literacy and problem-solving. The charity is only able to support young people’s education through the kind donations it receives.
