Uttoxeter Racecard - Saturday 31st December

Page 1

uttoxeter-racecourse.co.uk Official Raceday Programme | £3.50

We are glad to be back racing again after the disappointment of losing our fixture on the 16th December The team worked tirelessly, including covering the track with fleece a week prior to give us every chance we could but finally we had to admit defeat to the weather with temperatures dropping to minus 9 in the nights leading up to the day. Yet again this fixture has proven to be a popular meeting on the Staffordshire social calendar with us selling out of tickets a week before the meeting. With the enquiries the office team have been dealing with over the last couple of days, I’m sure we could have doubled the crowd today if we had the space!

Over the last couple of week’s I have spent much of my time looking ahead to 2023. Planning has already begun on what will be an exciting schedule of 25 racedays. The first big race of the year for us is The Boulton Group Midlands Grand National on Saturday 18th March. Watch out for announcements very soon on our entertainment schedule for Saturday 6th May (Coronation Raceday and Staffordshire Plate), Saturday 20th May (Live Music after Racing), Saturday 17th June (our new Saturday evening Summer fixture) and also our Ladies Day on Friday 28th July

Thank you to all of our customers and for your support in 2022 and I wish you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: ëëëëë Selected to win the race ëëëëê Good chance of being placed ëëëêê By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims. ëëêêê Unlikely to win but not totally without hope ëêêêê Can be given little or no chance

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances) The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

RACE SUMMARY

ART DECCO improved markedly on just his second chase start when runner-up over 21f here and, with further progress likely now moving back up in trip, he is taken to strike under Daryl Jacob. The Questioner has done little wrong since switched to handicaps/fitted with cheekpieces over hurdles and will be a big threat if taking to fences at the first attempt. Cases can also be readily made for Bring The Action and Bobmahley. 1-2-3: 1.ART
