SUPER SATURDAY SATURDAY 28 JANUARY OFFICIAL RACEDAY PROGRAMME | £3.50
Today we look forward to an 8 card race with an impressive 90 declared horses. Yet again the weather has been challenging to us this week. Huge praise is warranted to our Clerk, Richard Fothergill, and his grounds team for all of their efforts to ensure we race today
Looking ahead we are only 49 days away from our Premier raceday, The Boulton Group Midlands Grand National We hope you will join us for what is sure to be a great day’s racing and entertainment
The Midlands Grand National always caps off the best week in racing, following on from the Cheltenham Festival, and on Sunday the 12th March we will be hosting a Cheltenham Festival and MGN preview in conjunction with BRESBET. There is a fantastic panel in attendance consisting of Paddy Brennan, Fergal O’Brien, Milton Harris, Johnny Dineen and will be hosted by Robert Cooper. Tickets are only £15 and includes a pie and pea supper. Visit the website or pop into the office to book.
I hope you have a great day today and good luck!
Brian Barrass Executive Director

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
ëëëëë Selected to win the race
ëëëëê Good chance of being placed
ëëëêê By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
ëëêêê Unlikely to win but not totally without hope
ëêêêê Can be given little or no chance
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances) The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
You must be 18 or over to place a bet
You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet

RACE SUMMARY
BOBBY SOCKS appears to have been brought along steadily with handicaps in mind and, now pitched into one off what could prove to be a very fair opening mark, he looks the way to go. Yeomen Warder is another likely improver now handicapping and needs a close look in the betting but a bigger threat may be posed by Cousu Main, who produced much his best effort since joining this yard at Wetherby last time. French-import Royal Mer is also shortlisted.

RACE SUMMARY
Having caught the eye when staying on well into third on his Rules debut at Wetherby, BENASSI is likely to prove hard to beat with improvement on the cards. Milans Edge is the clear main danger, despite returning from a lengthy absence, while Mr Hailstone, who was also last seen out back in May 2021, is one to note in the betting.

RACE SUMMARY
ASTROMACHIA has been knocking on the door in recent weeks, and in a maiden lacking strength in depth, this looks a good opportunity. Rambo T should be capable of better as a hurdler given his bumper ability and he’s the obvious threat.

RACE SUMMARY
DISCKO DES PLAGES has a history of tame finishes to his name but he looked the likely winner when unseating 3 out over C&D in November and, from an unchanged mark, he could just be worth chancing to prove the point here. Chanceux was inconsistent over timber but his C&D chase debut second on New Year’s Eve was a solid effort and he’s feared, along with Hereford-scorer Not Sure and chase-debutant Gold Emery.

BARRIER PEAKS has stepped up for the switch to handicaps/fitting of a tongue tie, impressing with how he travelled/saw his race out to score at Exeter 18 days ago. He can defy a weight rise and come out on top again. Most have something to prove in opposition, with Inflagrante, Out For The Count and Midnight Gold fancied to emerge as the chief threats.
