OFFICIAL RACEDAY PROGRAMME | £3.50

WELCOME

Welcome to our Beer Festival race meeting with Carlsberg Marston’s Brewery Company, a particularly warm welcome to our sponsors today Carlsberg Marston’s, QuinnBet and Direct Commercial Flooring.

The last few months have been exceptionally challenging here at the racecourse due to the continued rain. Over a two-month period from the middle of September to the middle of November we have recorded 90mm. With a total of 280mm rainfall in 2023, we have already had more compared to 2022. Areas vulnerable to flooding, like the two-mile start, have been under water on three separate occasions and on the first occasion, October 20th, it stayed under water for nearly three full days. The intense heavy rain just hasn’t given the track a chance to dry, putting increased pressure on the grounds team with drainage projects, track repairs and rail movement. Thankfully the team have remained enthusiastic and committed through this difficult time. I would like to thank our loyal customers for their support and understanding during this time and ask you all to pray for some drier weather for us! Onto something more positive! Today marks our 12th Beer Festival in conjunction with Marston’s and to celebrate we have a fantastic choice of 9 real ales across the site for you to choose from today. Head down to the “Beer Festival Marquee” at the end of the Grandstand to find the biggest selection of ales. We also have Radio Murphy playing a set for an hour after racing in the Betting Hall. Kev and the band really are great entertainment and will be sure to cap off a great day. Also joining us today is Alex Stepney, who will be here for a meet and greet opportunity. Alex was Manchester United’s goalkeeper when they became the first English team to win the European Cup. Alex made 546 appearances for the club, keeping 175 clean-sheets and is a legend in his trade. In recent weeks, mine and the team’s thoughts have been focused on planning for next year. Watch this space over the next month or so for some exciting announcements for our themed raceday’s for 2024. Early Bird tickets are on sale for the 2024 Midlands Grand National. Get your tickets now for the best price for our feature raceday on our calendar. Also, our 2024 Annual Memberships are now on sale and offer a great value proposition for the regular racegoer. There are some fantastic additional benefits including access to any ARC racecourse meeting and numerous reciprocals throughout the year. For more information visit the racecourse office and speak to one of our friendly customer services team or visit our website for further details. Good Luck today and I hope you have a great day. STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: ‘‘‘‘‘ Selected to win the race. ‘‘‘‘• Good chance of being placed. ‘‘‘•• By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims. ‘‘••• Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. ‘•••• Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

All owners can enjoy 20 syndicate badges at all fixtures, on all ARC tracks* All ARC tracks will open dedicated and exclusive syndicate lounge facilities throughout 2023.

First brewed in Leeds in 1822, this classic amber session bitter has roasted caramel bitter sweetness balanced with distinctly aromatic smooth hoppy flavours and a lingering dry bitter finish.

FOURTH RACE 2.47 ABOUT TWO MILES (1M 7F 168YDS) FOR THREE YRS OLD AND UPWARDS

THE CARLSBERG MARSTON’S BREWING HANDICAP HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) Total prize fund £8000 Ï Owners Prize Money. 1st £3231, 2nd £1615, 3rd £808, 4th £404, 5th £202. (Penalty Value £4224.80) Weights lowered 2lb.

RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (18-23): D McCain (21 wins from 132 runners, 16%) runs GRAIN D’OUDAIRIES TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): V Williams (10 wins from 22 runners, 45%) runs JOLLY NELLERIE LONGEST TRAVELLER: SIZING POTTSIE trained by D Pipe, Wellington, 174 miles.

RACE SUMMARY

GRAIN D’OUDAIRIES looked a winner in waiting when just edged out at Carlisle on his seasonal return and can go one better here. Polyphonic wasn’t at his best at Kempton last time but is the sort to bounce back quickly and can chase home Donald McCain’s progressive sort.

RACE SUMMARY It will be interesting to see how the betting shapes up. As things stand, JO ARENGEOT BEY AA is the most appealing, with the form of his point success boosted by the subsequent exploits of the runner-up, who has won four of his six starts over fences this summer. Pleasington is every inch a likely type on paper and is feared most ahead of Kandor, who was probably flattered by his proximity to the winner at Hexham but is respected nonetheless. 1-2-3: 1.JO ARENGEOT BEY AA (FR) 2.PLEASINGTON (IRE) 3.KANDOR (FR) KEY colours
