Official Raceday Programme | £3.50

WELCOME

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY and welcome to our Christmas Party Raceday. Thank you to our sponsors today; Marie Hinton’s 70th Birthday, Richard Winterton Auctioneers, Mick Taylor, Ralph Michell’s 60th Birthday, Ashley Waller Auctioneers, APB Group and QuinnBet.

As ever here at Uttoxeter we have lots of entertainment today as well as 7 competitive races with good fields declared. On your way in you should have already seen the big man himself!! Santa is here today helping out the Rotary Club of Uttoxeter who are here collecting for the ‘Forget Me Not’ Café for dementia sufferers. This opened in Uttoxeter on the 11th December and is available every Monday between 10am and 11.30am, allowing dementia sufferers and families somewhere to meet up and chat over a tea or coffee. We are pleased to announce heavyweight British boxing legend Julius Francis with us today, on what is the eve of arguably the greatest heavyweight boxing card in Saudi Arabia. Julius, who will be mingling in the crowd, is a former British & Commonwealth Heavyweight boxing champion and proud owner of the converted Lonsdale Belt. He fought some of the world’s best in Axel Schulz, Danny Williams, Vitali Klitschko and notably went two rounds with the great ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson. He is also a former European heavyweight kickboxing champion. After racing, be sure to head to the Premier Bar where popular local band “Radio Murphy” will be playing for an hour after the last race to continue your party. Can I take this opportunity to ask all racegoers to enjoy themselves responsibly. We do appreciate it is party season and we do understand that people are here to enjoy their day but please respect other racegoers and also our staff, who are here to try and ensure you have a great but safe experience. If you have any concerns, please feel free to highlight this to one of our friendly stewards or one of the security team. Our next fixture is on New Years Eve. I am delighted to announce that this fixture has now sold out. This fixture has grown in popularity over the last 5 years or so and this year we have sold out in record time! If you are not joining us on New Years Eve, then I wish you all the best for Christmas and the New Year and look forward to you joining us again in 2024. Good Luck today! Brian Barrass Executive Director UTTOXETER RACECOURSE is part of Arena Racing Company which includes; Bath, Brighton, Chepstow, Doncaster, Ffos Las, Fontwell Park, Great Yarmouth, Hereford, Lingfield Park, Newcastle, Royal Windsor, Sedgefield, Southwell, Wolverhampton and Worcester racecourses; and Newcastle and Sunderland Greyhound Stadiums.

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: ‘‘‘‘‘ Selected to win the race. ‘‘‘‘• Good chance of being placed. ‘‘‘•• By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims. ‘‘••• Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. ‘•••• Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

RACE SUMMARY

This looks like a decent opportunity for ITSNOTEASY to gain compensation for his Uttoxeter near miss. Gris Gris Top is feared most now setting out for new trainer Donald McCain. Chindit Warrior has been off for over 2 years since finishing well held on his debut in France but returns for the Paul Nicholls stable so needs monitoring in the betting.

RACE SUMMARY Having shaped encouragingly on his first run for the Skelton yard at Market Rasen, HUGUENEAU earns the vote with this step up in trip a potentially good move. RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (18-23): O Murphy (38 wins from 187 runners, 20%) runs SURE TOUCH TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): V Williams (10 wins from 31 runners, 32%) runs DESQUE DE L’ISLE WEIGHTWATCHER: MORNING SPIRIT won off a handicap mark of 127, his rating is now down 6lb to 121. LONGEST TRAVELLER: THOR DE CERISY trained by N Mulholland, Limpley Stoke, 126 miles.

RACE SUMMARY

EATON COLLINA eventually got the hang of things over fences last season and had excuses at Wetherby on his return, so is worth another chance off what remains a decent mark. Desque de L’isle bounced back to form when winning at Lingfield on his first attempt at this trip and is the obvious threat ahead of Sure Touch.
