Uttoxeter Racecard - Saturday 15th June

Page 1

Welcome to our “Scott Mills Goes Pop” race night and thank you to our sponsors today, Cannock Chemicals, Jeff Johnson, QuinnBet and Groundshore.

Today should be a great day of entertainment for us all. With 93 Decs across 8 races we are sure to have some entertaining and exciting racing. After racing we will be entertained by a DJ set from legendary DJ Scott Mills, who will be joined by special guest Gareth Gates, to play you some of the best pop music from the 90’s and 00’s Euros Fever has certainly hit the nation this week and sees England going into the tournament as favourites. We have certainly felt the effect at the racecourse and this makes me wonder how it will affect the racing industry and attendances over the next month? However, we will certainly be showing our support and wish the team all the best in the tournament

Our next fixture is the bet365 Summer Cup on Sunday 30th June. This fixture is one of the richest in the Summer racing calendar with a total prize fund of £207,000, the feature race having an impressive prize fund of £75,000 On the day we will have plenty of free family entertainment in the Centre Course and we will also be screening England’s last 16 fixture (on the giant screen) which will kick off straight after the last race at 5pm, providing that they win their group!!! So, get your family and friends together for a great day of sporting entertainment. Thank you for attending today, your custom and support is appreciated and I hope you have a great day.

Good Luck

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

ëëëëë Selected to win the race

ëëëëê Good chance of being placed

ëëëêê By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

ëëêêê Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

ëêêêê Can be given little or no chance

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances) The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

WEIGHTWATCHER: MR TAMBOURINE MAN won off a handicap mark of 117, his rating is now down 9lb to 108. LONGEST TRAVELLER: LERMOOS LEGEND trained by P & M Bowen, Haverfordwest, 235 miles.

Not a particularly deep handicap given the field size, with MR TAMBOURINE MAN fancied to follow up from his Worcester success a fortnight ago. Prince de Juilley also arrives on the back of a recent succes, whilst Jukebox d’Eddy seemed to take well to a staying trip last time and completes the shortlist from a light weight.
