Uttoxeter Racecard - Tuesday 31st December

Page 1

Welcome to our New Years Eve Raceday here at Uttoxeter Racecourse, and a very warm welcome to our sponsors today; QuinnBet and the friends and family of “Higgy”.

I hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas and have managed to spend some precious time with your loved ones over the festive period The team at the racecourse have managed a few days respite in between our hectic December schedule I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their hard work and dedication not only in this period but through all of 2024.

Today we have another sell-out crowd for this fixture which is incredible after unfortunately losing the fixture last year to flooding. Thank you for keeping faith and supporting us once more

There’s no need to rush home as we have DJ sets playing in both the Premier Bar and Grandstand bar for an hour after racing.

As this meeting brings the curtain down on 2024 it also marks the retirement of DR MARTIN DAVIS who started working here shortly after he and his family moved from Nottingham back in 1985 when Martin became a local GP Martin took over as Uttoxeter’s Senior Racecourse Medical Officer (SRMO) in the Autumn of 2007.

He undertook the task of improving the standard and efficiency of the medical provision. He ‘raised the bar’ back then and has continued to ensure that all jockeys riding here receive the best care whenever needed.

Martin has maintained the same high level of enthusiasm and commitment right up until today. A regular visitor on non racedays, supported by wife Jane, to check drugs & equipment etc. Martin’s ‘hallmark’ has been his consistency, professional approach and attention to detail

We thank Martin for all his work and wish him and Jane a happy retirement after just shy of 40 years here with 17 as our well respected Senior Medical Officer, comes to an end

Looking ahead into 2025, our first fixture back is our Winter Ladies Day on Saturday 25th January followed by our Super Saturday Fixture on Saturday 8th February. We are only 11 weeks away from our Premier Fixture of the year, The Jenningsbet Midlands Grand National, on Saturday 15th March!

The team here hope you enjoy your day today and wish you a happy and prosperous 2025.

Best Wishes

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

ëëëëë Selected to win the race

ëëëëê Good chance of being placed

ëëëêê By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

ëëêêê Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

ëêêêê Can be given little or no chance

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances) The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
