WELCOME
Welcome to the first of three meetings at Royal Windsor Racecourse during the month of October that will bring down the curtain on a memorable 2022 season notable for the glorious warm sunny weather during the second half of the summer.
Since our last meeting on 1 September, the country received the sad news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, who spent much of her life at Windsor Castle less than two miles from the racecourse The Queen was a knowledgeable expert on horses in general, and racehorses in particular, and her loss was felt deeply by us all.
The sport of horse racing now looks forward to welcoming King Charles III, who has already had his first runners in the royal silks.
The month-long break has given the racing surface a chance to recover from our busy summer programme, and for the groundstaff to prepare it for the concluding three fixtures. These meetings tend to have plenty of runners as trainers look for their last opportunities to run horses on grass before the all-weather racecourses take over in November, so we are expecting some competitive action over the next fortnight.
Our feature race today is the Hippodrome Handicap, over one circuit of the figure of eight track. Several top stables and jockeys have taken up the challenge, including a significant number from Newmarket, the“Headquarters of Flat Racing”, which has provided many of the winners at the course this season.
As we head towards the end of the turf campaign, I would like to thank all the trainers and jockeys who have supported us during the last six months, including the champion jockey-elect William Buick. Regularly wearing the famous royal blue Goldolphin colours, William got off to a flying start at Royal Windsor back in the spring and has continued to be a rider to follow at many our meetings since then
We race again next Monday afternoon, and then we are offering complimentary general admission to the final meeting of the season on 17 October. You can take up this offer by visiting our website windsor-racecourse.co.uk, which also has details of some attractive raceday packages for the remaining racedays of 2022.
Best Wishes

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent orm under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

BLUE COLLAR LAD is going through a good spell currently so he makes as much appeal as any of these at the foot of the weights. Big Bard represents a yard among the winners so is of interest, while Joy Choi now lurks below his last winning mark on return to action.

RACE SUMMARY
STAR PLAYER has improved with each of his 5 starts, just losing out to a decent type in a match at Yarmouth recently, and he is likely to prove a tough nut to crack here. Novaportian shapes as though this trip will be within his range and he makes strong each-way appeal with Harry Davies aboard. Best of the rest could be Grand Central, who was well held on his nursery debut at Doncaster but is worth another chance given the promise he showed on his penultimate start.
