Royal Windsor Racecard - Monday 30th September

Page 1

WELCOME

As we head towards the first jumps meeting held at RoyalWindsor for two decades, we have been putting the finishing touches to the new hurdles and steeplechase courses and both tracks are nearly ready for action.

Already, you will see changes to the racing circuit, with the jumps diverting from the Flat on the far side of the course and taking a straight line near the riverbank rather than following the figure-of-eight.

The big launch takes place, courtesy of our regular sponsors Fitzdares, on Sunday 15 December and advance bookings are already available from our website www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk, where you can find details of the many and various options available to you.

Can’t make the December fixture? Join us for the inaugural Berkshire Winter Million, hosted by RoyalWindsor Racecourse and Ascot Racecourse on 17th-19th January 2025. Showcasing three days of incredible Jumps racing and over £1.2m in prize money, this is not one to miss Tickets are available to book now, including a three-day pass for just £40 to witness the excitement across the whole weekend

In the meantime we have one more Flat race meeting, on Monday 14 October, to round off the 2024 summer season. And on Saturday 2 November there may be no racing but we can provide you with the best firework party in the region, with information about that special evening in the racecard.

These are exciting times for Royal Windsor and we hope you will be able to be part of them. Everything you need is on the website but please contact us if you need further information. See you again soon!

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

LONGEST TRAVELLER: THE PADSTER trained by J Tickle, Tiverton, 151 miles.

EARL OF ROCHESTER achieved a good level of form when third at Newmarket five months ago and, even without improving, he should have enough to open his account for all that Tazima is an interesting newcomer on pedigree. Groovy Baby is a solid each-way play.

WEIGHTWATCHER: FARO DE SAN JUAN won off a handicap mark of 82, his rating is now down 6lb to 76. LONGEST TRAVELLER: THANKUAPPRECIATE trained by D Carroll, Malton, 220 miles.

An ultra-competitive sprint on paper in which it could be worth taking a chance on WILLINGLY, who shaped as if better for the run after 3 months off having a rare all-weather start at Newcastle earlier this month and Mark Usher’s mare is now below her last winning mark. Mumayaz shaped better than the bare result at Bath recently, so he heads up the dangers, with Thankuappreciate and Punchbowl Flyer fancied to be in the mix, too.

RACE SUMMARY

Multiple Group 1PA winner FIRST CLASSS is the standout, running without any penalties. He was the only horse to get near world champion Al Ghadeer at Goodwood on soft last year, so should be able to handle the forecast heavy ground well enough.

Stablemates Winds Of Fortune and Amirat Al Zaman are not at that level yet and are quite closely matched on Newbury form, though of the younger horses, Hibikinada Du Mazet, getting all the allowances, could be the one for a place, should she enjoy some cut.

Consistent mare who loves her racing, winning from 6f to 1m4f on quick or artificial surfaces and scored a black type win in a sprint at this track in June Must have fast ground to shine, however as this is her reported swan song, she could still do well if the race cuts up on the day. Shares sire with Amirat Al Zaman, out of a seven-time winner in the USA from 6f to 1m Showed up well on debut for today’s jockey on the Polytrack over this trip, so is untested on Turf, but gets plenty of weight and could make frame if underfoot conditions suit (R1 W0 P1) (OR 71)

The Arabian Racing Organisation was thrilled to welcome the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Racing Festival back to the UK as sponsors of nine Wathba Stallions Cup races, in addition to their feature event, the HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Cup (Group 2PA).

The HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Festival has played a significant role in the promotion of Arabian racing and breeding around the world since it began in 2009, aiming to continue the efforts made by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to preserve heritage sports and equestrian sport in particular.

The Festival supports 150 races from the grassroots to the highest level, in the UK and around the world. Their global sponsorship culminates in the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Jewel Crown, aGroup 1PA run in Abu Dhabi in December, one of the world's most valuable Arabian races on turf.
