Star Ratings Explained

Each horse is given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race HHHHI Good chance of being placed HHHII By no means without a chance

HHIII At least one or two hold stronger claims HIIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope IIIII Can be given little or no chance

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this, your bet will not be accepted

RUSSCO came good in some style over C&D last week and still looks ahead of his mark under a 6lb penalty so is taken to follow up at the chief expense of Heer’s Sadie, who arrives on the back of an excellent Kempton third. LONGEST TRAVELLER: KYLLUKEY trained by C Wallis, Ardleigh, 177 miles. RACE SUMMARY

A race which to a large degree revolves around KODIAK ATTACK who scored by 5 lengths on turf at Lingfield last week and so should take a bit of stopping under a penalty, even allowing for the fact he’s drawn widest. Captain Ryan and Nacho should get involved in the battle for minor honours, while Hot Hot Hot needs a betting check under William Buick. 1-2-3: 1.KODIAK ATTACK (IRE) 2.CAPTAIN RYAN 3.NACHO (IRE) KEY colours

It’s perhaps worth taking a chance that a change of yard sparks TRUSTY RUSTY back to life as she is well handicapped on the best of last year’s efforts and it’s possible this drop back to 5f will help. Like many from the Antony Brittain yard, Raabeh usually runs a race here so he’s shortlisted along with top-weight Refuge.

Proud Champions of the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme All of our member racecourses participate in the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme, a nationwide initiative for those with disabilities that may not be visible. A sunflower lanyard discretely signals to staff that the person wearing the lanyard may need additional support or a little more time when attending racedays. Guests are welcome to bring their own lanyards or to register in advance by contacting the racecourse they’ll be attending. Sunflower lanyards can also be collected at certain entrance points. If you would like more information, please ask a member of staff.
