Star Ratings Explained
Each horse is given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race HHHHI Good chance of being placed HHHII By no means without a chance
HHIII At least one or two hold stronger claims HIIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope IIIII Can be given little or no chance
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Not so competitive as the numbers suggest, and REGINA GEORGE is taken to open her account after her excellent recent second over C&D. The pair to concentrate on may be FLYING STANDARD and Tinsmith. The latter belatedly got his head in front at Chelmsford last month and a 5lb rise looks manageable, but Flying Standard has been threatening to come good of late and he shades preference. Robeam got the better of the selection over C&D on his penultimate start, but he failed to fire next time so Thematic is third choice. 1-2-3: 1.FLYING STANDARD (IRE) 2.TINSMITH 3.THEMATIC (USA) KEY

A fascinating feature contest with a few in with a shout. However, the vote goes to HASTY SAILOR, who took his form up a notch when scoring at Newcastle in July and Sir Michael Stoute’s charge could have more to offer being so lightly-raced for a 4-y-o. LONGEST TRAVELLER: THE GLOAMING trained by I Jardine, Carrutherstown, 205 miles. RACE SUMMARY
NACHO was helped by being held up in a strongly-run race when posting a career-best C&D success 12 days ago and with a similar scenario likely on the cards here, it would come as no surprise to see him firmly in the shake-up for the red-hot Donald McCain team. Brazen Belle tasted success at Lingfield last time and is feared, along with Dark Side Prince and Glamorous Force. 1-2-3: 1.NACHO (IRE) 2.BRAZEN BELLE 3.DARK SIDE PRINCE KEY colours
