Veterinary Care
Horse welfare is a priority at Wolverhampton. At every meeting there are two specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle. Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys. The second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents. In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse is given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race HHHHI Good chance of being placed HHHII By no means without a chance
HHIII At least one or two hold stronger claims HIIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope IIIII Can be given little or no chance
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this, your bet will not be accepted

SYMBOL OF LIGHT confirmed the promise of his debut effort and had little trouble in getting off the mark in a C&D novice event 5 weeks ago, he should prove tough to beat under a penalty with further progress expected. State Legend and newcomer Enforced are others fancied to get involved, whilst Makinmedoit rates a likely improver on the back of her debut effort.

RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (16-21): T Carroll (55 wins from 545 runners, 10%) runs VAPE TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): P Kirby (3 wins from 29 runners, 10%) runs GOWANLAD WEIGHTWATCHER: GOWANLAD won off a handicap mark of 75, his rating is now down 5lb to 70. LONGEST TRAVELLER: SOUND OF IONA trained by J Goldie, Glasgow, 285 miles. RACE SUMMARY GOWANLAD produced his best effort for a while when third at Newcastle recently and his stable has had a couple of winners since, so this previous C&D winner has stand-out claims in 0-70 company for the first time. Sovereign Slipper is firmly on the up, so he ranks as a danger despite stall 12, and recent Lingfield scorer Camachess could get involved if the race is run to suit. 1-2-3: 1.GOWANLAD 2.SOVEREIGN SLIPPER 3.CAMACHESS (IRE) KEY colours

CHEESE THE ONE upped her game when runner-up at Kempton recently and deserves marking up for doing best of those ridden prominently, so she’s fancied to go one better with further improvement on the cards. Dajarus, who benefited from a switch to front-running tactics when scoring at Newcastle last time, should pose a threat if he’s in the same form, while Token Trader is a player despite stall 12.
