Veterinary Care

Horse welfare is a priority at Wolverhampton. At every meeting there are two specially qualified Equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle. Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys. The second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents. In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse is given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race HHHHI Good chance of being placed HHHII By no means without a chance

HHIII At least one or two hold stronger claims HIIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope IIIII Can be given little or no chance

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this, your bet will not be accepted

WHO CARES WINS is a filly heading in the right direction so Alan King’s charge gets the vote to belatedly open her account on this first start on the tapeta. She encountered traffic problems at Lingfield just over a fortnight ago and she looks to have leading claims granted a smoother passage. Last-time-out scorer Billy Roberts heads up the dangers, ahead James Park Woods. 1-2-3: 1.WHO CARES WINS (IRE) 2.BILLY ROBERTS (IRE) 3.JAMES PARK WOODS (IRE) KEY colours

THE BETWAY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 3) Total race value £12000 R Owners Prize Money. 1st £5120, 2nd £2560, 3rd £1280, 4th £640. (Penalty Value £6480) SS

RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (16-21): D Loughnane (56 wins from 472 runners, 12%) runs FIZZY FEET TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): K Dalgleish (4 wins from 9 runners, 44%) runs ABERAMA GOLD LONGEST TRAVELLER: BALLYARE trained by L Russell, Kinross, 308 miles. RACE SUMMARY

Cases can be made for most but MUSCIKA’s latest effort behind Invincible Larne is easily excused after he was unable to dominate from the widest draw over C&D 19 days ago. He can get back to winning ways here and continue his upward trajectory this winter. Ballyare can provide the main threat under a penalty having scored over C&D 8 days ago, ahead of Idoapologise.

VETERINARY CARE Horse welfare is a priority at Wolverhampton.

LONGEST TRAVELLER: CHARLIE ARTHUR trained by S Hodgson, Hook, 143 miles. RACE SUMMARY

Having won at Chelmsford early in the month, TREVOLLI was beaten only by a progressive type at Kempton last time, so he’s fancied to get his head in front dropping back into a lower grade of handicap. Bobba Tee, a game scorer on his debut for Mark Walford over C&D last time, is a clear danger, while Contingency Fee could prove hard to pass if allowed his own way in front. 1-2-3: 1.TREVOLLI 2.BOBBA TEE 3.CONTINGENCY FEE KEY colours
