FAN CAMWelcome to Wolverhampton Racecourse for Week 5 of the Racing League, sponsored by William Hill.
The Racing League is an exciting team-based competition between 7 regional teams, who will compete over 6 Thursday evenings at ARC racecourses around the country. Teams will compete against each other over 42 races, fighting for valuable points to boost them up the league table. The team with the highest number of points after the final race will become the 2023 Racing League Champions.Points are scored according to the team’s finishing positions per race As we head into the penultimate fixture of the competition, last year’s winners Wales and the West maintain the lead for the fifth fixture in a row However, this could potentially be a pivotal night of Racing League, with less than 100 points separating Wales & The West, Ireland, and London & The South. Comprehensive updates will be relayed throughout the evening
We have a full evening of entertainment for all the family this evening, including live music, face painting and a treasure hunt, alongside interactive challenges and activities such as the thigh squat challenge and equicizers, where you can see if you have what it takes to be a jockey! Don’t miss out on playing Racing League - The Game Live at racingleague.racingstars.co.uk, the free-to-play fantasy game Sign up, make your selections for this evening’s races and be in with the chance of winning exclusive prizes such as team merchandise and drinks vouchers.
We hope you enjoy your evening with us and look to return to us soon for an exciting end to the 2023 season. We welcome back the ever-popular series of Saturday Night Racing fixtures featuring live music in the Horizons Restaurant this Saturday, followed by the Bet365 Racing with Wolverhampton Pride on Saturday 7th October, a movement that we are delighted to support Our attention then turns to Fireworks Night in November and a string of festive fixtures in December including Boxing Day Racing Summer may be drawing to a close but there is plenty to look forward to for the remainder of 2023!

One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle. Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys. The second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy Please do not assume the worst

KEY Owner Breeding Breeder Jockey Trainer Sponsor Star Ratings Explained
Each horse is given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed
HHHII By no means without a chance
HHIII At least one or two hold stronger claims
HIIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope
IIIII Can be given little or no chance
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

The Racing League Joker Card
A new innovation introduced in Racing League 2022 allows each of the managers of the seven competing teams having the opportunity to play a Joker in any two of the 42 races when there are at least 12 horses running.
The Joker doubles the points won by the two horses representing the team in a given race. When played, the team receives double points in that given race but it is not applied to individual jockey points.
The team manager will announce their intention to play a Joker in the Paddock, directly before the selected race This is done by placing a Joker card alongside the team name on the scoreboard in the Paddock.

RACE SUMMARY
London & The South start the evening in third place but might be able to narrow the gap at the top of the table courtesy of THE SMILING WOLF, who looks nicely treated under a penalty for last week’s comfortable Ffos Las success The thriving Mini Magna is feared most on the back of her recent Carlisle near miss. Suicide Blonde and Skilled Master are handicap newcomers who make some appeal, although the draw could have been kinder to the latter.
