Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure – There is no formal dress code in this enclosure, however the removal of shirts is not permitted.

Evacuation Procedures

Great Yarmouth Racecourse has significantly enhanced Safety & Security measures this year to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment of the day. However an incident may occur which is beyond our control and is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency

As part of our Safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of ushering you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions. Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards

The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area Should it be necessary to evacuate the course itself, there will be two main options; firstly to return to your vehicles if safe to do so and leave via the main entrance

Secondly, should it not be safe to return to your vehicles, you will be requested to leave via emergency evacuation gates, onto the racecourse itself, where you will receive further instructions. It may give you peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required. However, in the event of an emergency, remember;

Take your belongings with you. Under the directions of the stewards, proceed quickly and calmly to the safe area

Health & Safety Notice

The Racecourse would be grateful if racegoers could observe all Health & Safety requirements whilst at Great Yarmouth Racecourse. We would also be grateful if parents could keep a close eye on children and prevent them from climbing on the running rails and getting onto the actual racecourse We would also like to remind racegoers that the FIRST AID room is located opposite the racecourse offices.

Horse & Jockey Welfare at Great Yarmouth

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse

The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.greatyarmouth-racecourse.co.uk

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By know means our of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

HIIII Can be given little chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATING

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Race preview from Weatherbys

It is an absolute pleasure to be sponsoring the Weatherbys EBF Maiden Stakes at Yarmouth this afternoon, a six-furlong contest in which11two-year-oldsgotopost.

Of those with experience, Charlie Fellowes’Haazeeznodoubtsetsthe standard on the form of his runnerupeffortatAyrlastmonth.Heinitially caught the eye with his finishing effort from the rear when fifth on debut at Newbury but was seen closer to the pace last time. Whilst the winner Electrolyte made all to win by over two lengths, Haazeez was far from disgraced, and the form took a huge boost when Electrolyte was denied by just a noseintheCoventryStakesatRoyal Ascot.Theothertriowithexperience will have to improve significantly on what they have shown so far to reachthatlevelhereitseems.

Haazeez no doubt sets the standard on the form of his runner-up effort at Ayr last month.

Charlie Appleby has an excellent record with his two-year-olds this season, operating at a 33% strike rate, and debuts Shadow Of Light in this contest. The last two winners of this race were both debutants, and this Lope De Vega has a striking pedigree. He is out of a New Approachmarewhowassuccessful

on racecourse debut and is a half-brothertodualGroup1-winning two-year-old Earthlight. Whilst he must concede experience, there is plenty to like about this well-bred Godolphincolt.

George Boughey’s two-year-olds have also been performing well this season and the Amo Racing owned Lakers is an interesting runner in the hands of David Egan. Pinatubo has sired three individual winners from nine runners and this 90,000gns purchase is out a Group placed mare. Lakers is a half-brothertotheowners’Ornellaia, animpressivewinnerasatwo-yearold last season at Goodwood and lastseen finishingthirdin theGroup 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes. Based on pedigree, it may be that he tackles further than six furlongs later in the season.

GodOfWar is by fellow first-season sire Mohaather, who is yet to get on the board with his first crop. Tom Clover’s colt is out of four-time winner Lady Freyja, a half-sister to dualListedwinnerPartyBossaswell as high-class hurdler Countrywide Flame, winner of the 2012 Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham. Ultrasoul fetched €200,000 in the sales ring prior to joining Roger Varian and is out of Prix de Diane winner Channel. Whilst he may need further in time, he does hail from the family of a CheveleyParkwinner.

SHADOW OF LIGHT is a likely type first time up for Godolphin and is the selection before market clues Haazeez is probably worth another chance, while Lakers and Ultrasoul are another couple of appealing newcomers from Newmarket.

RACE SUMMARY

Some well bred individuals looking to improve in what looks an open contest and best to focus on the fillies with form. Amirat Al Zaman could easily find more on her UK debut on the quickest ground she’s faced to date, and her in form stable is already off the mark with a similar type for same connections. Jameelaty has excuses for her previous defeats against older horses, though obviously showed plenty at home as this is her first outing in a maiden. RICH PULLS PITCH will have learned plenty from her debut but looked quite straightforward and with the older fillies having a few questions to answer, is the narrow preference.
