Where will I study?
This short full-time course will be taught at your local centre.
What qualifications do I need to enrol on this course? There are no specific entry qualifications for this course. Candidates should, however, have a keen interest in the army, fitness and personal development.
Will I receive a recognised qualification? Yes, upon completing the course you will achieve an SQA group award at level 4.
How can I continue to develop my skills? Students who successfully complete the course will be able to present themselves for recruitment into the army where they will be able to build upon and develop the skills they have acquired. Students will also, however, be well prepared for civilian employment or further academic study where they can continue to build upon these newly learnt skills.
Why should I consider an NC Army Preparation course? Do you want to develop team working, confidence building, fitness and other core skills in preparation for a career in the army? Do you want to enhance your employability skills and career prospects with a practical qualification - developed in conjunction with the army- which introduces many core and transferable skills suitable for a variety of employment areas? Do you want to work towards a qualification which will enable you to continue to study at HNC level and beyond? If yes, then this course may well be the right course for you. The NC Army Preparation course has been designed to meet the army’s minimum requirements for physical fitness. Students will study a wide range of disciplines which will prepare them for military service. However, the mandatory and optional units within the course will introduce a series of core and transferable skills which are suitable for a wide variety of employment opportunities - or progression to education at a higher level - in a range of areas including sport, recreation and business.
The course will introduce the following mandatory areas: • Accident prevention and emergency procedures • Map reading and land navigation • Exercise and fitness – circuits and resistance training • Assist with an event • Communication • Information and communication technology • Numeracy
In addition students will undertake a range of units from areas including: Problem Solving, Hill Walking, Orienteering, Mountain Biking, Map Reading within Expedition Leadership, Engaging in the Community, Swimming, Athletics, Working as a Volunteer to support a Community Project and Health, Safety, Fitness and Wellbeing.
