Member of Parliament For Upminster & Hornchurch Some people living in Harold Hill and Hornchurch have been concerned about the future of their Post Offices. Elderly people and those with mobility problems need their branches to be
accessible. I have been assured by Post Office Ltd that it is committed to keeping its branches on high streets and at the heart of the communities where they make an important contribution to the local economy. However, they do have to respond to changing consumer trends, such as the increase in online shopping. The majority of Post Office branches, large and small, are now operated by retailers and this is a successful way of supporting both Post Offices and retail businesses. Suitable retail partners are being sought to provide services in the vicinity of the existing branches. This means that there will be no closures, simply relocation to nearby shops. There are no detailed proposals yet for either branch and a six week public consultation will be held before any final decision is made. There will be no changes in the meantime. Staff at Queen’s Hospital were delighted that the Trust has been taken out of special measures. I visited the hospital to congratulate
everyone for the huge amount of hard work and effort that has been put in to raise the standard of patient care and experience. The demand for health care is infinite and staff need professional knowledge and experience combined with empathy and patience to provide the service that people expect. The new Tropical Lagoon Childrens’ Ward is bright and cheerful, with facilities for parents to stay overnight when needed. An 8 week public engagement programme has been launched by the CCG to look at possible ways to save money, such as prescriptions for over the counter medicines and purely cosmetic procedures, in order to protect essential services like cancer care, emergency care, life threatening conditions and mental health services, to set priorities for the coming years . The new elecTric SUV The SUVs are coming!!! Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo and Bentley are just three names that have had to tick a box as far as manufacturing a SUV is concerned. They simply had to keep up with market demand. Something that BMW has already done with there X3 and X1 drives, however the new i5 is the electronic/ green version, the one up from the i3. This allows those family 5 seater wagon lovers to go green in a BMW! The pictures make my face cringe up a little, and I start to make a stereotypical American sound that has no spelling, but might look like “eewww”. But I think we can all agree the fact that it has a BMW badge on it, the fact that it is new and the fact that it is going
with the “all electric” trend we have to acknowledge and applaud, we are going to see a lot of these on the road. The price will be somewhere near an entry level Tesla Model S, so not astronomical around 50k, but still pricey compared to, dare I say it, a Nissan Qashqai. As expected with these electric cars, the i5 will have longer battery life courtesy of a larger ion battery pack and is expected to last a figure approaching 200 miles. Competition is growing with the Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive and the Volvo v60 but expect BMW to hold their own. The i3 and the i8 are not exactly rare and neither will this come 2019.

Ingredients: BURGERS 2 aubergines Lettuce leaves Sliced tomato 1 red onion 4 burger buns Cooking Oil
A yummy vegetarian BBQ burger, perfect served with a side salad and a tzatziki dressing.
CURRy MaRinadE 75ml vegetable oil 1-2 tsp curry powder Juice of ½ a lime 2 cloves of garlic Salt & pepper
Method: KiTCHEn: 1. Wash .all the vegetables. Cut the aubergines into slices 1cm thick. Peel and slice the onion.
BBQ: 1. Prepare to the BBQ to approx. 220c.
Ingredients for 4 servings Burgers 2 aubergines Lettuce leaves Sliced tomato 1 red onion 4 burger buns Cooking Oil
2. Cook the sliced aubergine for approx. 4 minutes on each side.
2. To make the curry marinade, mix the oil, lime juice and curry powder together into a paste, peel and crush the garlic and add to the mixture. 3. Brush the sliced aubergine with curry marinade and season both sides.
3. Split the buns and drizzle some oil on the inside and toast gently. 4. Serve the aubergine inside the warm toasted buns with lettuce, onion rings and tomato, with a dressing of your choice.

Our wallets are a treasure trove of financial information. One of my party tricks is to take a look at someone’s and save them £100s in minutes – and now I want to do it for you. This is my wallet workout, a self-inspection of contents to save you cash. 1. Pull out your debit card – do you have a winner? A debit card reveals where you bank; and mistakes there are a plenty. Do you pay a monthly fee? If so, work out its annual cost (£15/month = £180) and then ask yourself if the ‘extras’ the bank gives are worth this. If not, cancel it. Plus, if you were flogged it or told you had to have it, you may be able to reclaim all packaged bank account fees (see www.mse.me/reclaimpackagefees). Does your bank make you happy? If not, then www.FirstDirect.com is worth considering switching to. It’s a fee-free account (as long as you pay in £1,000 a month), pays switchers £100 and has a linked 6% savings account. After completing a 1 mile swim, a 25 mile bike ride or a 6.2 mile run, I am certain that a great sense of achievement would overcome any feelings of exhaustion or tiredness. The ultimate test in stamina would be completing all three of these back to back. Welcome to the world of Triathlon!
The famous London Marathon sends more and more people all over Essex to the streets, stepping up their training in preparation for the great event. However, Triathlon is fast becoming the new way to test your stamina and being used all the time to raise money for charities in need. My first exposure to the world of Triathlon was while watching the Sydney Olympics in 2000, a number of people plunged into Sydney harbour with the Opera house glistening in the background, they were starting the first leg of the gruelling event. After the swim a commentator then said “now for the 25 mile bike ride”, my eyebrows immediately rose, but nearly entered a state of shock when I realised it climaxed with a 6 mile run. Now, 15 years later, I can totally see that if you are ready to test yourself to limit that Triathlon not only offers you variety, but pushes your entire body to the maximum. There are people that train individually for such an event and produce great results. However, there is a club in Essex that are tapping into those that like to train within a group of people and also those who thrive the competitive element of sport and wish to compete against and train with peers and friends regularly. The East Essex Triathlon Club based just down the A127 in Rayleigh has been going for many years and they are the club to join if you are looking to train for events throughout the year in Essex. They train every week, Saturday morning they do a long run and on Sunday morning they hit the roads of Essex on their bikes, this all starts from the Market Car Park in Rayleigh. During the week they have Tuesday night track sessions
at the Basildon Sporting Village as well as Monday night swimming sessions at Runnymede pool Castle Point and Thursday night at the Basildon Sporting Village again. I have been speaking to Zena, a member of the club about Triathlon and its growing popularity. It seems as though Triathlon is now becoming the ultimate challenge, even rivalling marathons and half marathons? Why is popularity increasing? More generations of 40+ adults are still enjoying sport. Some may have come from other sports such as athletics or swimming and realise they can still be competitive at triathlon, which celebrates winners from age groups in 5 year gaps. Many people start triathlon just for a one off event but stay because they find it a friendly inclusive sport. We have also had Olympic and world championship success with the likes of the Brownlee brothers and Chrissie Wellington which has increased the popularity too. London 2012 no doubt has had a big impact, especially the success of the Brownlee brothers as you have mentioned. With Rio looming, what can we expect from East Essex Club to get more youngsters taking an interest and giving it a go? We have regular training sessions for any young people wishing to take part in triathlon and also host a number of events each year including the Go-Tri series, which provides a short, low key taster event at Basildon Sporting Village (for adults and children) and can be entered on the day! The East Essex Club offers a chance to train with Triathlon enthusiasts for either a one off challenge or to explore your hobby of competitive running, swimming and biking. The price of annual membership is £33 for adults and £12 for children and with 300 members from 8-80, the club is going from strength to strength.
