ART TREK by Art Circuits | City of Doral
A
rt Circuits’ Founder and Editor in Chief Liana Pérez and Dainy Tapia, the Communications and Community Engagement Director for the Doral Contemporary Art Museum, take you on two art treks through the City of Doral. They visit Downtown Doral Park on foot, and they view the monumental sculptures of international masters that are visible from the road by car. You will be able to view the city’s permanent art collection and the temporary exhibition of contemporary art master Manolo Valdés: The Legacy, which will be on view until June 2021.

”Our Art Trek in the city of Doral starts at the Government Center (8401 NW 53rd Terr.), its door flanked by two purple resin Manolo Valdés’ Infanta Margarita from Velazquez’ Meninas, and to the right his Butterflies in the roundabout. The Doral Cultural Arts Center will be located in front of this circle.
Michele Oka Doner’s Micco presides over Doral Downtown Park since 2013, and has probably become Doral’s most iconic piece of public art. Like a checkmark, its size and organic shape makes us believe it is a natural formation. Micco is a Miccosukee word that means ‘wise leader’. Walking through Downtown Doral Park you will enjoy six other of Manolo Valdés’ sculptures.
American master Richard Haas’ mural of kids happily playing adorns Doral Charter Elementary School’s main entrance (8390 NW 53rd St.) since 2015. It’s also the entrance to the pedestrian Main Street with plenty of bustling restaurants, bakeries, and cafes.
Since 2016 there have been two red majestic works by John Henry’s Bienvenido installed at the end (or the entrance) of Main Street and 87th Ave. They are a gateway and landmark entry point for the visitors.
5
We jumped in our car to visit Morgan Levy Park to enjoy Basketball by Rafael Consuegra in place since 2008. From the car, we glanced at Triple Butterfly, by Manolo Valdés.
8
Next stop was MAU Park (Millennial Atlantic University, 3801 NW 97th Ave) there, you might fall in love with Valdés’ Double Image as we did.
9
Hitting the road from the car we saw three magnificent Valdés’ sculptures at Doral Central Park (3000 NW 87th Ave)
6
North we went to check Valdés pieces on Doral Glades Park (7600 NW 98th Pl) and the Doral Legacy Park (11400 NW 97th Ave.). There, we started our way back stopping at Doral Meadow Park (11555 NW 58th St) to enjoy the ceramic mural from 2010 by Odalis Soto, A Mosaic of Nature.
10
American Master Mark di Suvero’s Mohican is the oldest piece of public art in the City, installed in 1980 when the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta opened (9100 NW 36th St), long before the city was incorporated. Along the 36th St. drive slowly because there is no shoulder on the road. A peculiar characteristic of this point on the road is that it suddenly changes from 41st street to 36th.
7
Since 2016, Miami Dade College West Campus’ (3800 NW 115th Ave) façade is highlighted with Rafael Barrios’ piece Gravity of The Gravity. The College also has an art gallery, the West Art Gallery. In 2007, this was the first public art space in the fast-growing city of Doral. Here we made a quick detour to glance Alberto Cavalieri’s Ignea Magna at the Double Tree Hotel.
11
& The End! CityPlace is the hot zone of the city. The DORCAM Pop Up is also there at Suite 129. You can enjoy excellent contemporary art exhibitions and a real coffee nearby..”
