Editor's Notes Welcome to our 7th Issue of Artinzene. Artinzene has had a slight change in our categories, travel photography and poetry are now in our Art section and Environment has merged into a Community Section as this really encompasses the flavour of the writers and it’s a great way that you can tap into your community and local events. Once again a very big thanks to our eclectic array of writers and creatives. Our cover and featured artist this issue is Yurie Yamaguchi. Yurie is from Japan and is fashion design graduate. She is presently studying English on the Gold Coast. She shares her drawings which are currently on exhibition at the Urban Paradise Gallery in Surfers Paradise. Sir Brambles entralls us with tales of Sir Walter the Dragon and inspires with his creative photography. Brendan finds himself totally inspired by Gaudi Architecture in Barcelona and shares his journey. Would you like to get involved in artinzene?
By Michelle Ward The health section is brimming with healthy ideas from a range of new writers including Rachelle Miller, and the Joy of Eating, Mark Hill from Acupuncture @ Palm Beach, Samantha Goldsmith bringing consciousness and Deva Raj inspires us with the Art of Awakening, Michelle Wilson shares her therapy of talking to herself and Shona Keachie tunes into our children’s health. I have been drawing pictures and have loved fashion ever since I was a child. I studied fashion for 3 years in Japan. After graduation I saved money so that I could study abroad. I’m currently a student of the English language and I am living on the Gold Coast. I came to study abroad because I wanted to meet and talk with people from other countries and I wanted to show my work internationally. I also wanted to understand and know other cultures because we are all living on the same earth. This is a series of drawings I have completed over the last few months whilst living on the Gold Coast. I clear my mind before I begin drawing and often my drawing begins with graffiti. My drawings do not really have themes. I am inspired by photographs of people that I take. I am currently exhibiting these original artwords from Urban Paradise Gallery in Surfers Paradise at 3221 Surfers Paradise Blvd, Surfers Paradise.

Mind Sketch

artinzene/ Issue #7
When the darkness of closed eyes sinks in, all that remains is the beauty of your face, long lingering after I saw it last as a sketch engraved on the inner of my eyelids. Fingers grasping your silky woven hair, draping over my body and throughout my soul. Sending shivers into the bone and muscle. Velvet lips forever I want to slumber in with mine, frozen in our time. The tears I hold back as I hold your waist and fall ever more slightly every moment I’m exposed to your wondrous heart, smile and with holding soulful eyes.
poetry A Lover’s Walk Away
Your long hair draping down your naked back as I watch you walk away, from me for just a second and yet my heart breaks just a little at this. All my heart’s desire to hold you in my arms wrapped up and lost in pleasures of the moment. Skin on skin, lips kissing all they can find; ever curious in all that is your body. Heart beating in this time, blood flowing richer and stronger than any river; getting caught in passions flood. My skin tingles at the thought of you pressed against my body, in naught but what we were brought into this world with.

Our Perfect Place
18
artinzene/ Issue #7
Sun rises and sets each new day, upon the horizon we set our eyes for drifting dreams to come. As we sit lingering in this moment soaking in all there is the beauty of this place. Naught but the sounds of nature and waves rippled to whisper and sing us to sleep on this bed of grass. Fresh is the breeze that surrounds our body’s skin, wrapped in bed sheet on the dirt beneath the grass. Whisked droplets of sea sailing on the air landing on our closed eyelids, while we rest here enjoying this summer day and warmth of the beating down sun. Waiting for the moon to show her illuminated snow white face, for her to dance her way across the sky until she rests once more at the other side. Never ending courtship of the moon and the sun, forever in love never to be held by one another.
POETRY
Imprinted forever
The close is nigh, our time will be forever imprinted on our hearts. Though sparse waters may separate us, our hearts always connected. As our time draws to a finish, lessons learned and taught forever going through our minds. Carried on into the future forever a stone in our foundations. Finger tips grasping each other’s as we our lives are directed in different way. Our lips wanting more of the other’s, nowhere near enough. If it were to stand still so we could be in the other’s arms for just those moments longer. Sun do not move, not an inch for our love.

Walter the Water Dragon by Sir Brambles
Walters ceiling was decorated with fluorescent stars, precisely resembling all the constellations, he had once contemplated having the ceiling and floor spin around as to mimic the rotation of the earth and make it all even more lifelike. But after spinning himself around a couple of times and feeling quite dizzy and nauseous, he had put that scheme in the “to be revised drawer of his desk. So there lay Walter the water dragon in his comfy attire, under his three doonas on his mountain of pillows, but no rest came to him. Thoughts were racing through his head as if it were a formula one track and this time all the spectators had been given some neat wheels as well and they were all over the place. Yes this time even the spectators children, grandparents, pet dogs and their flees

He simply HAD to do the unthinkable and get OUT of his bed during hibernation... Walter rolled out of bed, now only seeing the grape shaped planet without any other reference point, somehow it seemed to draw its fellow Grapeians in its magnetic field as poor Walter felt the content of his stomach move in a way Mother Nature has not really intended it to move on a daily basis. He needed to make a dash for the bathroom. On all fours, Walter, using an amount of energy quite unsuitable for hibernation time, crawl-sprinted head first into ARTINZENE / Issue #7

the bathroom door. Nearly passing out and with a thumping head, he could already feel a giant camel hump forming on his little coconut, he managed to open the door and duck dived, grape shaped planet first, into the toilet bowl. Here he released an entire hibernation ration of grapes. His little body trembled as he pulled his weary, slightly deformed head out of the loo. He flushed three times and let his poor troubled mind rest on the toilet seat. Time stopped for a while as Walter the water dragon tried to muster some strength... After what seemed to be the time it takes for a mountain chain to form, I honestly don’t know how many new I-phones we could be talking about, Walter found enough courage to try and make his way to the sink. He slowly raised his grape depleted corpse just enough so he could manage to procure his toothbrush and matching paste on the touch. He let himself drop down again and let his back rest against the cabinet on which the sink was mounted. He unscrewed the cap of the paste and the smell of the grape flavoured tooth-scrub nearly made him want to jump into the toilet and flush himself whole, like a deceased goldfish’s funeral. “Blast this grape obsessed fool” he heard a voice say. And might I add it was a rather peculiar voice... Walter looked around, still dazed and confused, to see where the voice came from. It couldn’t be too far away, it sounded awfully close as a matter of fact. It had to be in the same room, as it had that typical bathroom tiled resonance. 28
artinzene/ Issue #7
“I am right here, you funny fella,” the voice said, “stop fidgeting about and look in the mirror!” Walter turned around and mountaineered the sink cabinet quite professionally, until he could see his own image and the image of a talking camel on his head, as clear as day, in the mirror. “Oh deary me,” Walter let out in surprise, “it seems like my camel hump has produced a camel...” Walter pinched himself a couple of times, something his little claws were very well equipped for and decided that before he went through with talking to his very real delusion, he would definitely have to brush his teeth. First of all to get rid of the foul taste in his mouth and secondly he didn’t want the repulsive odour bouncing back into the camel’s face, even if he is just a figment of the imagination, you should be a bit considering at all times... So Walter started brushing his teeth, although the taste of the paste was more appalling than appealing this time. He even found himself raising the toothbrush towards his humpy guest, but quickly reconsidered. “I am already going to have a chat with him, it is a bit too early down this weird relationship to start sharing a toothbrush” he thought to himself. After a good scrubbing, some rinsing and spitting and making some bizarre throat-clearing noises (flossing was not very high on the ‘to do’ list at this moment in time), Walter once again looked at his scaly image in the mirror, hoping that his guest might have disappeared after this refreshing

poetry ritual. The camellusion was still there, staring Walter down, and chewing on something, camels always seem to be doing that, maybe it is a jaw strengthening exercise, I haven’t a clue... “What are you?” asked the camel. “I am Walter” replied Walter. “Are you deaf?” asked the camel, “I did not ask you WHO you are, I asked you WHAT you are, for you see I am a camel, I go by the name of Ronny, not a very camelly name, I grant you that, friends call me Ron the Cameelion, but that is beside the point, I am clearly a camel but what are YOU supposed to be?” “Well,” Walter replied “I am a water dragon.” “Never heard of such a thing in my life” Ronny replied. “You don’t really look like a dragon now do you?” “What do you mean by that?” asked Walter, he didn’t really like where this conversation was going. “Where are your wings?” asked Ronny. Walter gazed into the mirror, raising his left arm, no wing there, than his right arm, no wing there either. “You don’t have wings now do you?’’ said Ronny, still chewing on something, maybe camels chew on their words... “I am afraid I seem to be lacking some wings indeed.” Walter admitted. “Do you perhaps spit fire at your enemies?’’ Ronny inquired. Walter had to say no to that one as well, but he wasn’t too keen on just rolling over. He didn’t spit fire, that was indeed not the case, but perhaps he did spit something else. The only things he could think of however, were the semi-digested grapes he forcefully projected into the toilet in the not so distant past. He kind of knew that Ronny wouldn’t be too impressed with that. Walter bowed his head. “No Ronny, I don’t spit fire, not at my enemies, not even at chestnuts, I couldn’t spit fire if my life depended on it...” “I genuinely feel like I am wasting my time here.” Ronny uttered, with a tone that can only be described as being charged with a crystallized form of disdain, a disdain diamond of the purest form, a disdiamond so to say. “You, Walter, are most certainly the poorest excuse for a dragon that has ever walked the face of the earth and I will not waste another second of my life conversing with such a daft creature as yourself, a goodbye will not even do in this case, so I bid you a badbye!” - to be continued. 30

by Gaudi By Brendan McMullam
To me Barcelona is the best mix of a European city. You have a plenty of beaches for swimming and sun bathing and beautiful Spanish buildings all throughout the town. There is a very rich culture of food, dancing and traditional music. To top it all off you will also find buildings by the world class architect Gaudi. The Gothic Quarter will keep you entertained for hours and this was the first place I wanted to check out. The small little cobblestone streets left you feeling like you have stepped back in time. A chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main roads, a place where time seems to slow down and you can potter along exploring boutique clothes and local art shops. Every now and then the narrow streets would widen into a sunny square where you could enjoy a coffee or cold drink in a peaceful cafe. My challenge was to try to eat outside for every meal and try every local Spanish tapas possible. The great thing about eating tapas is you get such a large variety of flavours in small plates to share in a group environment so you never have food envy. The food is quite rich too so you don’t need to eat too much. My tip is get away from the tourist locations and find authentic family owned restaurants where you get more value for money and a more relaxed environment. ARTINZENE / Issue #7

The City has 7 beaches dotted along its 4.5 km coastline and the warm Mediterranean Sea is perfect for cooling off in the summer sun. Many people come to Barcelona in the cooler winter months to get some sun as it’s winters are mild and still get some really nice sunny days. Antoni Gaudi (1852-1926) has a massive influence on the Architecture around Barcelona. His designs were very distinctive with an organic look, drawing his inspiration from elements of nature like natural curved stone twisted iron sculptures, organic like shapes and the use of coloured mosaic tiles lets the viewer admire and 35 ARTINZENE / Issue #7 intuitively know its a Gaudi.

The La Sagrada Familia is the most famous of Gaudi’s work. The church has been in construction since 1892, once you go in you will understand why. The building is so highly detailed inside its no wonder its due to be completed in 2030. The gothic like structure is very distinctive with its 4 main towers jetting up to the sky. Inside is even more impressive with beautiful designed stained glass windows that span over 2 stories and draw the viewers gaze upwards to a breath-taking view. I recommend taking the guided tour up into one of the towers which gives you a unique perspective of the inner workings of the building and a beautiful sky line view of Barcelona. All in all Barcelona has something for every one, you could easily fly in for a weekend or stay for a month and you won’t get bored. What ever you are looking for in a European city you will in find artinzene/ Issue #7 it in36Barcelona.

The Joy of Mindful Eating
health
By Rachelle Miller
It’s not what you eat, but how you eat it! Your thoughts create your reality, if you feel bad about what you are eating or doing, then it will be bad. Realistically how we make meaning from the things that we do ultimately presents the outcome. In a way it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Some say, you are what you eat. But these days, you are what you eat, eats! So not only do we have to consider what we put into our mouths, but also what does the cow, chicken or goat eat? Or when you think about it further, what is the food that the plant eats, fertiliser, nutrients or what is the soil like. It is a little mind boggling! ARTINZENE / Issue #7

One can get so overwhelmed with eating the right thing that we forget to consider the larger picture. Or it is so expensive to eat organically that we cannot afford it. So the thoughts inside our head eating the food that we can afford become even more of a priority! So take a moment to consider what you are eating, but also how are you eating? Do you eat on the run? Do you gobble your food? Do you eat with friends? Do you bless your food every time? Do you stop and take a moment to smell the roses and just concentrate on each amazing and tantalising morsel?
health
Mindful eating, is just that, it is filling your mind with exactly what you are doing in that present moment, in this case, eating. Take a seat, stop to consider the food you have prepared, be grateful for what you have, even take time to bless the food and the animal or plant that was sacrificed to feed you and nourish you. Nourish, that is key here, this food is to nourish, not satiate a craving or stop you from starving, we live in a world where we can eat and be filled with nourishment and joy. ARTINZENE / Issue #7
41
health
From here on in, what are you going to do? The next time you get an opportunity to eat, stop and enjoy the moment. Really feel the nourishment, health and wellbeing that you are giving yourself. Think of how much you value and love yourself that you have chosen this food to eat. Consider the energy that you are filling yourself up with. Slowly take each moment to chew and swallow each tantalising bite. Fill yourself up with unconditional love and enjoy! 42

Imagine You Are Learning to Fly by Melanie Brockwell
The now asks you to flap your limbs to the rhythm of a drum. You focus on your shoulders where there seems to be a lot of fast moving, intensive effort. The moment speaks to you and your focus turns to the beauty of your graceful hands at the end of your arms; to the mesmerising and invigorating dance of that which is beyond imagining - if only you can let go. Let go of what you think you know in order to celebrate and be guided by the unknown. Not a loosening of the grasp so much as an inhalation of All That Is. Breathe the unknown now and allow, allow, allow.
You are learning to fly!

The time comes to explore. At first you focus on the potential dangers, the harsh weather, the unseen and ultimately far off destination. This keeps your now experience close, rigid, with little vital breath or freedom to allow. The now speaks and suddenly you’re aware of the miracle of flight itself revealing rays of effulgent joy that seem to sing an uplifting and holy song, allowing you to welcome the wonder of the ocean beneath your wings, an ocean swimming with wild and vibrant critters. Allowing you to relish in the gratitude for your companions each having their own conversation with the cosmos‌ but most of all, allowing you to explore your adventure of All That Is as an equal and essential Alchemy of One. 48

At times you tire and question the need for all this incessant flapping. You stop to refuel, to ponder the details, or to appreciate the place you are.

Friends perish or change direction. The world is subject to solar flares and tsunamis. Time itself seems to slow or slip away just as you feel you’re settling into the now. And as you allow ceaseless transition to simply be, a trust is established in the miracles and wonder each now offers.

Acupuncture @ Palm Beach By Mark Hill Acupuncture is a painless effective natural alternative to mainstream medicine and has been rapidly gaining popularity in the western world in recent years, due to the surprisingly good results it achieves. Acupuncture was invented long before pharmaceutical medicine, approximately 3500 years, and during this time some excellent techniques were developed based on anecdotal trial and error. This Asian medicine is not all about the needles, it encompasses other techniques, such as herbal medicine, cupping and massage. The philosophy of this oriental medicine is an all encompassing (holistic) treatment which are predominantly focused on treating the root cause of the problem and not just the symptoms. Studying this art form is a lifelong pursuit that delves deep into Asian philosophy and talks about getting the balance of energy just right to maximize an individual’s potential. That said, a modern registered acupuncturist in Australia has a minimum Bachelor degree with a firm grounding in western medical science. Acupuncture is famous for the result it achieves with musculoskeletal conditions, especially lower back pain. From a biochemical perspective, an acupuncture needle is a foreign object. The body’s immune system will attack this foreign object with all sorts of helpful naturally produced chemicals such as endorphins and red and white blood cells. This is helpful for many conditions such as

Osteo-arthritis as it aids the healing process and relieves PAIN. However acupuncture has proven its worth for many other conditions. Scientific studies have indicated that acupuncture in conjunction with IVF will improve a patient’s chances of falling pregnant by 50%. Other studies have shown its effectiveness in allergic rhinitis “allegies sneezing and runny nose. In my experience, I have found it also very effective for headaches, insomnia, constipation, digestive issues, relief of menstrual pain and menopause symptoms, pain in general and auto immune conditions. I offer rebates to most health funds and also in home acupuncture for the elderly.

Talking to Myself Well, at least this is what I’ve defaulted to telling people I do, when I share with them what I’ve been doing over the last wee while to replace the space in my life where I had grown used to having consistent and reliable counsel from friends and family. It’s become one of my favorite tools to remain healthy in heart and soul. Over the last few years, finding myself very alone and uncomfortable with it, I was desperate at times to talk to someone, but the reality (without the violins, please) was that it was unrealistic to think that I could reach out to someone at every given soul searching moment. In hindsight I can see how it was my time to learn how to be stronger, find ways to build resilience to the loneliness and learn how to turn to myself and trust myself for advice for once in my own life. But, how do you do this when there are so many thoughts swimming and spinning around in a racing mind and no ear to share them with and dive into the rabbit hole? Meditation only blocks them out and in my experience while they are there, there is no room to let your mind be free. Talking to ‘someone’ really, really, helps. I realized I needed to start talking to MYSELF. OUTLOUD. Argh! But that’s socially unacceptable! People will laugh at me! Then I realized I live on my own and duh it’s the perfect space to do it in. That is, if I pick my times to do it. It’s a private thing. So, the perfect time evolved to be when I hit the pillow at night. Lights out, before I go to sleep and talk all my worries away.

health Actually, I started out talking to, lets say the universe, because I felt uncomfortable saying God, and had no other name for it. Spirit, which spirit? Spirits are previous life forms… I wanted to talk to that magic, the one we have to thank for being here… Life?... Sounds like an awkward name for a child that a parent has created in an attempt to find something that is not mainstream… I even tried Life backwards and started to call ‘it’ Efil. Kinda cute. Starts to sound like your grandma or dear old neighbor who always bakes cookies and makes you milkshakes. Now I tend to lean towards ‘Angel’s’. “Hi, Angel’s”. It warms my heart and resonates with my intentions of what I’ve grown to recognise as self-therapy, and really, isn’t talking to myself… or is it? It is my own reasoning that is vocalized in a dialogue that finds resolve in the problems at hand. But, being a believer in some sort of higher power that is out there listening, I feel as though it is these ‘Angel’s’ or ‘Efil’ guiding me to find the answers. When I was a child I would catch my sister talking to herself all the time and I thought it was HIL-ARIOUS. Kids can be so cruel, and for the most part, I say unintentionally. They learn from the abundance of influences around them and no one person is to blame, but biologically it’s no secret that they are prone to accept the way things are told, consequently living and vocalizing what they, we, believe to be true. And of late the universe has been reminding me that it is not just kids who are prone to this. Of course, another non-secret, it is adults too. Somewhere in each of us there is inevitably The Fool living out that which we default to in our prejudices, automatic learnt response, said without depth or feeling or any further consideration to the flip side of our reaction. It is these reactions from other people that can leave us doubting ourselves, or, feel the fire burning within and think ‘damn them!’ (to put it politely) and feel hurt and ashamed.

health It is my proud vocalization of late, to people I wish to share my journey with, of my newfound form of self-therapy, that has often left me feeling these feelings. Emerging from The Fool in this particular area of life I am finding the conflict within is the challenge of growing to learn how to accept these reactions from people as a pure expression of their stage in the journey. Who am I to let my fire condemn them when they are merely reflecting an earlier stage of the journey in which I myself have previously lived? I dare say, before I can catch myself, when I next see someone having a little conversation with themselves, I will perhaps fall guilty again by having a little giggle at the ‘crazy person’. The perfect mirror, yet in this instance, only recently have I dared to look closely at the reflection, and part of the lesson is to recognise this and let it guide me to become the person I would like to be, without prejudice or judgment of other human experience that I am yet to live out for myself. Daring to tell people, I realise, has been a necessary part of the learning, and for the most part I get enjoyment out of it. I hope that sharing my journey might help encourage others to believe in sharing theirs. ARTINZENE / Issue #7

health Well, on a side note (to express the ups and downs of the journey) that was until recently someone really drove it home how crazy I sound, and sounding concerned, advised me not to tell anyone else (clearly for fear of them thinking also, that I am crazy). As the cinders starting simmering and I was hurt (from my own doing) I declared that I didn’t care what they thought and wouldn’t be telling them if I did. Damn fool emerging! Alas, I came home that night and talked to my Angel’s about it and in the irony of it all I was reminded me that one of my biggest challenges in life is to learn how to not care what other people think. It is purely a reflection of their journey in life and not to be hating. Feel love, embrace the lesson for what it is and don’t be afraid to keep sharing. A wise friend who encouraged me to write this article told me to keep speaking who you are from the heart and you will attract people on the same vibration as you. So for anyone out there concerned about my mental health, don’t be, I can tell you right now it is much better for adapting and finding a way to beat the loneliness and prejudices. Part of the journey has proven that sometimes I don’t need to talk to anyone, and now after dedication to the cause, I have room to sort out most stuff in my own head, and even enjoy meditation. And for those feeling like they need someone to talk to and fear being judged, sometimes a conversation, out loud, with yourself, can be the best counseling or psychology help a person can find. And it’s FREE! Peace, love and look after your soul!

Bringing Consciousness By Samantha Goldsmith
“The medical school of the future will not particularly interest itself in the ultimate results and products of disease……. knowing the true cause of sickness and aware that the obvious physical results are merely secondary it will concentrate it’s efforts upon bringing about the harmony between body, mind and soul which results in the cure of disease” - Dr Edward Bach For those of us blessed to have been exposed to the mind body spirit connection and the relationship to healing this seems like a no brainer, but to those struggling to keep on top of an explosion of disease, injury and trauma in our health care systems this notion couldn’t be further from their minds. It is easy to see how in the fast paced and funding based environment of the hospitals this crucial component of treatment could be overlooked, dismissed as unimportant and even criticised as new agey, hippy or far out, however this is not an excuse to allow this crucial component of healing to continue to be ignored.

health On a deeper level and of no surprises to the reader of this type of publication the integral link between the state of consciousness of the care provider and the impact that has on the delivery of care can not be underestimated. It is nearly impossible to consider that mainstream medicine would endorse a deep expedition of discovery into the consciousness manifesting this “disease” or disorder” they are presented with, when they are ill equipped and often unable to explore the dis-ease within themselves. With open hearts and a mindset full of grace we can begin to make a shift in the way that healthcare is delivered and received by acknowledging that we are all responsible for the pervading consciousness within our communities and our society. We can consider supporting the expansion of consciousness required to revolutionise this struggling system rather than succumbing to the victimhood that see’s the problem as “out there” or “not our fault”. We can begin to recognise that the health of the Hospital itself, the Doctors, the Nurses, the Cleaners and the Managers is of critical influence to the outcomes that we are seeing, the numbers of incidents and the sick state of our mainstream health care system.

Tuning Into Our Children's health Many of us find ourselves in the position of family nurse once we have children. With two small patients who can’t convey very well what is actually wrong with them, I find my observational skills have intensified. What’s really struck me, with this latest bout of colds they have, is how quickly I had previously dosed them with pain killers. Paracetamol and Ibuprofen are common place in most of our homes, with many liquid forms available for our children from baby stage upwards. But here is the problem, if we continually dose ourselves or our kids with painkillers or some other synthetic ‘remedy’, in order to suppress our symptoms and just carry on, are we simply storing up trouble further down the line?

Our physical state is the last line of attack when it comes to listening to our inner knowing. If you have things showing up on a physical level, whether it’s an accident or an illness, it means you have ignored what artinzene/ Issue #7 is going on at an emotional level.

Emotions are important, they are quite simply our best indicators of where we are in relation to that wellbeing that abounds in our most natural state. There are many versions of feeling bad, from outright despair to the lesser intensity of simple doubt, but they all feel bad, and are all indicative of a thought pattern that is working against us. When you feel bad, listen. If you don’t, it will show up physically. Many years ago the author Louise Hay outlined the mental patterns that are associated with hundreds of diseases and conditions, even down to each vertebrae of the spine. Our mental patterns, often subconscious, affect us emotionally, then physically. We now know that our physical symptoms are not directly related to your genetics, as scientists like Dr Bruce Lipton can now explain for those that like the detail, they are related to the energy created from thought patterns. Colds, for example, are a sign of being overwhelmed, disconnected from the needs of your being. When it comes to taking care of our children, our biggest challenge is to help them to learn to tune in, to listen to their inner knowing. I know when my kids are being horribly grumpy or naughty there’s something more going on. Left unattended, inevitable within a few days there are physical symptoms of some sort. On the other hand, catch what the body is communicating and it can heal very quickly. 65 ARTINZENE / Issue #7

health How can I teach that if every time their inner being is communicating I tell them to calm down, cheer up, wizen up, take a dose of Pamol… just many versions of ‘please just let me get on with my day’ or worse “listen to me and not your own knowing”. This too is a sign of our inner being trying to communicate with us. No wonder colds are so common these days when we are busier than ever and, by default, taking our kids on the same ride. It’s time to get back to basics, listen to what our inner knowing is saying, rather than suppressing it. Take a lead from our children, in listening, you will find a life that flows more easily, more healthily. Tune in, what are your and your children’s emotions and physical symptoms telling you?

The Ancient Art of Awakening B D
y eva Raj
Consciousness dwells within each one of us, a rise in awakened in souls, communities, tribes and spiritual practices being shared for transformation. We have stepped away from a time of me and come together in unison as We. I stepped onto Queensland’s soil 8 months ago wanting to share a practice that changed the course of my life. The practice is to present yourself to yourself in each and every moment! Awareness of my truth, no matter what that maybe. To work with an energy so powerful, which you command, direct and transmute into healing and growth. It teaches you how to take the power back and direct your life with love, compassion and strength. I searched to belong. I looked for truth and for an external source to fill me until I found Kundalini yoga. It awakened my consciousness at an incredible speed and it confronted my ego and shattered all of my fears. Kundalina builds strength and allows you to find peace in the midst of kayos.

It takes you to the core of your being where you call upon your body, mind and spirit to work together. It allows your artinzene/ soulIssue to #7 shine and your truth to be felt.
The power of Kundalini Yoga lies within the actual experience. Kundalini Yoga is a science that works directly on your energy system. It is stimulated through Yogic postures, mudras, pranayama’s and mantras and is felt from your very first experience! It really is that powerful. It’s technology works on transformation and empowering the individual human being. Be prepared, it’s not like your normal yogic practices, I will leave the magic for you to experience. Classes are held on the Gold Coast, the best place I found and was lucky enough to teach and sit classes is Centre for Life in Burleigh heads. They hold weekly classes, community gatherings, short immersions and chapters to help integrate the practice into your life. They offer the best customer support care I’ve ever experienced. There’s also several teachers in the area offering amazing classes and workshops. If it finds its way to you don’t miss the calling it will change your life forever. “You have to find your ‘you’ and experience it; that is the total purpose of life” - Yogi Bhajan

10th Animal Action Night Inspires Action for Koalas
by Aldwyn Altuney
October 1st 2016 - Quality Hotel, Mermaid Waters Gold Coast rallies to help save koalas from extinction The 10th annual Animal Action event on October 1 at Quality Hotel Mermaid Waters will raise funds for koalas, which are vulnerable to extinction and currently endangered. With bushfires, habitat clearing, road accidents, diseases and dog attacks being the main cause of their rapid decline in Australia, 2.5 to 3 million koalas were shot to supply the fur trade in America and Europe from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. Animal Action Night: Inspiring Action for Koalas host and AA Xposé Media Director/ Photojournalist Aldwyn Altuney said the current koala population was believed to be under 50,000 in Australia. 78
artinzene/ Issue #7
“Sadly, koalas are rapidly becoming extinct in Australia,” Ms Altuney said. “They were listed as vulnerable on the east coast of Australia in 2012 and have been classed as ‘endangered’ in increasingly more locations as poorlyplanned subdivisions near cities clear koala habitats and food trees.” She said this year’s Animal Action Night had more than 10 performers all rallying to help save the koala and raise awareness and action for its plight. Animal Action events inspire action for the humane treatment of animals worldwide and are about raising awareness, appreciation and respect for all animals. “After being sick of seeing animal cruelty in society, I wanted to do something about it and founded the world’s first Animal Action Day in 2007,” Ms Altuney said.

“I ran seven free day events raising funds for different animal charities each year, including the Animal Welfare League, World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), David Fleay Wildlife Park, Sea Shepherd, Voiceless, Save Japan Dolphins, Save China Tigers and Currumbin Wildlife Hospital. “We have since done two night events focusing on different animals each year (whales and orangutans) and raising funds for Sea Shepherd and the Orangutan Foundation International Australia.” This year’s event is all about koalas and will raise money for Wildcare Australia and Friends of the Koala. Entertainment at Animal Action Night: Inspiring Action for Koalas includes, fresh from award-nominated world class shows, highly acclaimed bass baritone singer Lawrie Esmond, internationally

said both Wildcare and Friends of the Koala had been inundated with koalas lately from as far as Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Lismore and there were not enough volunteer carers to look after them.
Susannah Keogh
She said most of them were brought in for road trauma from land clearing, domestic dog attacks, road accidents and diseases. Noticing a huge decline in koala numbers since she began volunteering with Wildcare Australia 15 years ago, she urges drivers to slow down while driving around in the dark (particularly in areas where there are koala signs) and for people to contain their dogs by keeping them inside at night. “At the rate we’re rescuing them, I’m worried we will see the loss 81 ARTINZENE / Issue #7 of koalas,” Ms Scott said.
“If we can’t save koalas, nothing else has much hope.” She said money raised from Animal Action Night would go towards rescue and rehabilitation facilities for koalas in southeast Queensland and northern NSW. Animal Action events aim to encourage people to take action for animals, even in small ways. You can do this by making healthy choices while shopping - buying cruelty free; reducing your consumption of animal products or becoming vegetarian or vegan. You can also write to your local, state or federal elected rep to convey views on animal protection; volunteer with animal organisations; write a letter to the editor of your local papers; recycle and compost at home and express concerns to food companies and supermarkets that are involved in sustaining animal suffering. “Together, we can all make a difference for animals and the environment,” Ms Altuney said. Tickets for Animal Action Night: Inspiring Action for Koalas are $65 each or $60 each for a table of 10, including entertainment, a drink on arrival and 2 course vegan or vegetarian meal.
