PROJECT TYPE: Residential STUDIO IV: Arch. Joel Herrera Norman DATE: May 2016 LOCATION: Monterrey, México
DESCRIPTION: Considering the public character of the site, as well as the implications that this entails in terms of security, it is intended to create a sense of surveillance from the homes through a unilateral visual interaction. The project prioritizes the natural pedestrian circulation of the area, redirecting the user through a public corridor morphologically shaped by multi-directional volumes.

Following the premise of the need for public spaces in the area for the enrichment of adjacent urban life, priority has been given to the scale and quality of the free areas on the ground floor, placing access to essential interior spaces and underground parking at that level.

PROJECT TYPE: Cultural AREA: 4,000 SQ. MTS STUDIO IV: Arch. Roberto Pasini DATE: May 2017 LOCATION: Monterrey, México
DESCRIPTION: Given the location of the site and the contrasting environments of the immediate context, the project shows two different faces responding to existing regulations and user needs. Compositionally, the proposal consists of an intersection of volumes, which generates an interstitial space that is interpreted as a public area adapted to the activities of the building and flows of pedestrian circulation. The public space is enriched by areas of permanence, vegetation, diverse activities, local commerce and shade.

DESCRIPTION: In response to the current master plan of the University of Monterrey, the existing and future pedestrian flows, as well as the lack of permanence spaces for the student community, the proposal extends current circulations, prioritizing pedestrians through the separation of vehicular mobility by locating it in a different level. The main entrance corridor of the campus is continued to the site through a bridge that connects with a hallway that provides commerce and services, alternating spaces to seat, study, chat and wait for the multiple transportation departures. Following the university’s plan to have a more open campus, a public plaza in the ground floor is created, allowing a better landing from the drop off and providing an exterior open space to the community.

Definition of vehicular path. The topography’s slope is solved by creating a long circulation that absorbes the difference of levels between the lowest and highest point
The pedestrian flow that comes from the bridges entry directly to the building at the same level
The addition of another volume with different direction allows the creation of an open space in the ground floor, functioning as the main vertical circulation and giving space to other type of spaces.

Building/Monument DESCRIPTION:
Given the location of the property assigned, the project is linked to the studies carried out by the historian J. Manuel Prieto González in his book “Modern Heritage and Architectural Culture in Monterrey” (Translated). Although there is no official recognition of modern architecture as heritage by a Mexican institute, Dr. Prieto exposes the need to promote the value of this architecture because it is part of the past and belongs to the history of progress of the city . The devalorization causes the deterioration of the cultural production of the epoch to which it belongs, diminishing its meaning for the population. The urban context where the site is located is rich in emblematic modern architectural works, as well as neoclassical, neovernacular, colonial and eclectic. The leading presence of these buildings give origin to a proposal that is oriented towards the southwest for the capture of the architectural and natural panorama, allowing to direct the public space, from its south access, to the historic chapel, having a permanent visual interaction with it.
