Staff from the Tudor Griffiths Group have scooped the prestigious national award of Kitchen and Bathroom Showroom of the Year in this year’s Builders’ Merchants Awards. Colleague Paul Morris was shortlisted to the final three of Branch Manager of the Year. Manager Paul, lead his team to an increase in annual turnover of over 40% in under two years thanks to the outstanding customer service they provide. TG Builders’ Merchants General Manager, Mark Evans, said the team were delighted with their success and that recognition in such a high-profile competition was a huge achievement. “Just to be shortlisted in two categories was great news for our team, but to actually walk away with the best kitchens and bathrooms showroom award itself was incredible. “The awards ceremony was held at the London Hilton on Park Lane, and we were announced as winners in front of over 750 industry colleagues. The night was a fantastic experience and it’s a brilliant way to celebrate an extremely successful year.” The awards were organised by Builders’ Merchants News in partnership with the Builders’ Merchants Federation. Try the new micropub Oswestry’s first micropub has now opened its doors in Leg Street. Situated in the former cheese shop, The Bastion Alehouse held a party to celebrate opening with a great turn out. The micropub is owned by Jamie Jones and the conversion has been completed by local firm Fistral Ltd. The pub has space for 25 downstairs and 15 upstairs and promises to bring local real ale and craft beer to the town centre. The Bastion Alehouse is open Wednesday to Thursday from 4pm to 10pm and Friday to Sunday from 2pm.

A taste of Argentina Oswestry businessman, Howard Jones has launched a website dedicated to providing wines from Argentina. The specialist site, Taste Argentina, will offer consumers one of the most diverse ranges of Argentinian wine currently available in the UK. Howard wants to introduce customers to new grapes and regions in a fun and informative manner. Howard Jones, said, “There’s so much the country has to offer. They’re producing fabulous Bordeaux style blends, crisp, minerally dry whites really good organic sparkling wine. Arts and crafts group offers new skills Words n pics Open Writers (WOW) are excited to announce they are launching their new Community Art & Craft session. WOW leader Jan Hedger said, “I felt a need to offer people a chance to come along to drop in sessions, where they can bring along their own project of any medium, with a chance to take part in group projects and learn new skills in a fun and relaxed way, with camaraderie, a cuppa and biscuits! There will be a wealth of materials & equipment provided and we will be building stock as we go.” The Launch Party will be held at Llwyn Fields Community Room, off Llwyn Road, Oswestry on Tuesday 14 January from 1pm-3pm.
