KIM Jae-joong is an internationally renowned vocalist and actor. As a singer, he is best known for his unique rock style, characterised by deep emotions and a powerful voice. His first solo mini album was released in January 2013, followed by another mini album and two full-length albums. KIM began his acting career with a starring role alongside HAN Hyo-joo in the South Korean-Japanese co-production Heaven’s Postman (2009). The hit film was followed by performances in many TV dramas and movies, including Fuji TV drama series Hard to Say I Love You (2010); SBS TV series Protect the Boss (2011), for which he won the New Star Award at SBS Drama Awards; Dr. JIN (2012), which earned him Best New Actor at the MBC Drama Awards; and the film Code Name: Jackal (2012), co-starring SONG Ji-hyo and OH Dal-su. KIM also received the Top Excellence Actor Award at the 7th Korea Drama Awards for his role in MBC TV series Triangle (2014).

INTERVIEW 訪 問
How do you feel about the 'rebirth' of classic films? Many old films are being remade these days with new directorial styles. But as time goes by, more and more people realise that these classic films can’t be replaced because they reflect the atmosphere, the way people behaved and the way people dressed back in the day. The word ‘rebirth’ is also especially meaningful and empowering to me because my 2017 concert tour was named ‘Rebirth of J’. It reminds me of how I felt when I stepped onto the stage for the first time. I came up with the title after I fulfilled my military service in 2017; it’s dedicated to my fans, who have always shown their love and care for me. My hope is after the ‘rebirth’, I can continue to protect my fans.
Thanks to your cover of Forget-me-not, a song by the late OZAKI Yutaka, many music fans are rediscovering the original song. How did that come about? I first heard Forget-me-not in an old Japanese drama series because it was its theme song. I performed this song last year in Japan and really felt the emotion of the song, and I especially related to its sadness. I think that sadness convinced me to cover it, and it’s now one of my favorite songs. The ideas of resurrection and restoration, which are also AFA13’s themes, have great significance for a musician; every musician hopes that his or her music will live forever. As a musician myself, I find that the ideas of ‘identity’ and ‘time’ are closely linked.
Do you have a favorite remake or film series? I’m obsessed with the Batman franchise. I own all the films on DVD. It’s been rebooted many times, but I still look forward to every new one. I’ll continue to collect new Batman films for sure.

What are your aspirations for the 2019 Asian Film Awards? For the past 16 years, I’ve been working hard and performing all over the world (I’m currently also preparing for my 2019 Southeast Asia concert tour). I think that music and cinema share a very interesting relationship in that they influence each other. I hope to use the Asian Film Awards as a platform to encourage filmmakers to make more musicals for Asian audiences. After all, the genre has been hugely popular around the world in recent years.

尾崎豐的《毋忘我》是一套舊日劇的主題曲，我去 年在日本演唱這首歌時，感受到曲中澎湃的情感 和其中的哀愁，因此我決定重唱此曲。對一位歌手 來說，再生和修復意義重大，也是第 1 3屆亞洲電 影大獎的主題；歌者的身份與「時間」有深厚關係， 因此每個歌手都希望自己的音樂可以永遠流傳 下去。
有喜歡的重拍或系列電影嗎？
我對《蝙蝠俠》電影系列很著迷，擁有整個系列的 光碟。電影曾經多次重拍，但我對未來推出的新作 仍非常期待。相信我會繼續收藏未來推出的《蝙蝠 俠》電影作品。

對2019年亞洲電影大獎有什麼展望？
過去十六年來我在世界各地努力演出（我正在準 備2019年的東南亞巡迴演唱會），發覺音樂和電影 之間的關係很微妙，彼此互相影響。我希望藉亞洲 電影大獎呼籲電影人製作更多歌舞片給亞洲觀眾 欣賞，因為這是全球近年十分熱門的電影類型。
