EXECUTIVE CORNER
IT’S A HOME RUN WITH THIS ONE!
BY: CLAIRE BIAGGI
As we come down to end of the year, the Execs are cracking down on meetings with teams, finishing up Spring projects, as well as, completing our committee projects. On Wednesday, March 27th, the Promotion committee hosted a photo shoot for the new Club Sports poster. Teams will also be able to use these photos for their own promotion. The photos look amazing and we just want to give a quick shout out to all of the team representatives who came out and took photos, as well as, the people who volunteered their evenings to help. And let me tell you what, the pictures look incredible. We are super excited to share them with you! At Council on Wednesday, we voted on two Club Sports team proposals. Council reviewed them both and approved the Softball team! We are super excited to have them as a new Club Sport. Their officers are very dedicated and are looking to make a legacy on campus!

MOVING FORWARD BY: JACK NIXON, CLUB SPORTS REPRESENTATIVE Appalachian State University Men’s Club Lacrosse is just getting into the heat of their season. They are currently three and three, heading into the final stretch of the season. They dropped two games to Tennessee, a Division 1 MCLA team, Division rival Kennesaw State, currently ranked #3 in the nation, and a nail-biting loss in the final second to Florida Atlantic University. With typical Boone weather, the men’s lacrosse team has had 7
limited practice, but are making the most of it. “Not being able to consistently practice has been an inconvenience, but when we are able to get the boys after it and outside, everything falls into place” - Sam Ingles, President of Men’s lacrosse. March 16th at State Farm Fields the Mountaineers played conference rival Davidson, the first double-header. The team shared the ball well and had

nine different goal scorers in the nineteen to ten win. The boys turned around to play a very skilled New Haven University that drove down from West Haven, Connecticut to start their spring break trip. With a quick lunch and rest the Mountaineers were off to a slow start, leading two to one after the first quarter, but quickly picked up the pace netting five more goals in the second quarter to bring the lead to seven to two at halftime. That was too much for the Chargers as App State scored five more goals
winning the game twelve to four. The defense was led by Griffin Glover who stood tall in the cage with nineteen saves, posting an 86% save percentage on the afternoon. Sam Honchalk ended the day leading the Mountaineers with nine goals and three assists. Both Glover and Honchalk were named to the MCLA Honor Roll for this week.

The Mountaineers drive down to Wake Forest University on March 31st to play a great Deacon lacrosse team. With a win the Men’s lacrosse team can clinch a spot in the SELC playoffs, but not before driving down to Charlotte on April 6th to play rival UNCCharlotte and divisional rival North Florida.

ARCHERY
THE NEW FAM BY: MEG MILLER, TEAM MEMBER
I was excessively nervous about my first archery practice. I did not know anyone, and I did not really know how to shoot a bow. It was my first semester at App and I had just transferred from another school. This time around, I wanted to get involved more in activities and clubs around campus. Everyone was super nice and helpful, and from that point on I could not wait for Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons to go to archery practice. I wanted to get more involved in the club and archery in general. I got my first bow for Christmas, a Bear Cruzer G2. His name is Travis. When I came back to App for the Spring semester I became a competitive member of the 9
team, and was convinced to run for club secretary, had the honor of being the first ever Archer of the Month, and participated in my first archery competition. I also started hanging out with people on the team outside of practice and meetings. Suddenly, this big group of people that I barely knew 5 months ago felt like family. I had never really had a lot of friends throughout my life, and certainly never this many at one time. Being a part of the Archery Club became more than just something to do on the weekends, or a college club. No matter how much time I spent with these people, I would not get tired of being around them. Which is weird, because I usually

get tired of people pretty quick. Every time I am with them, I find myself constantly smiling; like a little kid when you tell her that she can have ice cream for dinner. Being in the Archery Club has given me so much more than I ever thought it could. It gave me somewhere to fit in, and a little family here in Boone, North Carolina.

THE LAST ONE BY: KATELYN GOFF As we get closer and closer to the end of the semester, we get closer and closer to the 2019 graduates leaving us. There are three strong, independent women from AHO Women’s Rugby graduating this semester and are going off to start their post-graduate lives. Even though half of the team just met these seniors, this year we have all grown to be one big family and will miss them very much. These ladies have put in tons of time on and off the pitch to better this team and their ability to play rugby. Over the years they have attended Appalachian State 11
University and have been a part of AHO, they have touched many rugby balls and played many games. Although they have played many 80 minute matrix matches, nothing can compare to the last one. The last matrix match of the season and of their career as an AHO is coming up this weekend. Even though this is their last matrix match, it isn’t officially over yet, and we are soaking up all the time we can with our seniors before they leave. This coming Saturday, March 30, we will be playing Coastal Carolina University right here
club sports illustrated / no. 110
in Boone. This will be our last matrix match of the season, so we are all showing up to the pitch ready to give 110% of what we can during this game. We are all playing for the seniors and want their last game to be their best game. No matter what happens, once an AHO, always an AHO.

AFTER THE SEASON BY: MIKEL SMALLE, CLUB SPORTS REPRESENTATIVE With the close of the season, and the ski slopes shutting down the Alpine Ski Team looks to the next season. We look to say good bye to graduating members, Willis Hawkins and Courtney Forbis, while celebrating our great season. Within the next couple of weeks, the Alpine Ski Team will hold officer elections and a team dinner. Officer Elections allow for new members to have an opportunity to influence the next Alpine Ski Season while the team dinner offers an occasion for which to remember all the great times from this season. The team dinner is a special 13
occasion. We bring together the entire team including our coach and faculty advisor for a celebration. We congratulate each other on surviving another hectic and exhilarating season. We remember the different achievements that each of us accomplished, whether it’s hitting a gnarly line or setting a personal best. We host our dinner at Woodlands BBQ in Blowing Rock. This is a tradition that occurs every year and it will hopefully still happenin future seasons. During our team dinner we hold elections for the next school
club sports illustrated / no. 110
year. The elections are crucial because they pass the torch of responsibility to a new set of officers. These officers are in charge of the entire season. They take care of team finances, plan the race rosters, and find accommodations for the racers. Without the officers, we would not be able to compete. We are super excited for our upcoming Executive Board for next year!
