What's up SHARK NATION? This is your newly elected District Governor of the Pacific Northwest District, Trang Tran. I cannot explain how blessed and honored I am for this wonderful opportunity to serve Key Clubbers throughout the Pacific Northwest. I am humbled to say that I am from Division 34. This division has served me well, and I am so grateful to all of you- you made this past year as lieutenant governor a year of a lifetime. As your governor, know that your district is in good hands. I will strive to make this year an unforgettable, wonderful, and overall fantastic year. Watching your 2013-2014 Lieutenant Governor, Tina Sok, over the past couple of weeks, she is on top of her game. I expect this division to support her, and show the PNW what you are made of! She is already such an amazing lieutenant governor, and I know she will make this division proud. In the upcoming year, don't forget to serve your communities, try your best in school, and above all, care- because it is our way of life. Encourage everyone in your communities to join this wonderful organization so that they can make friends and make an impacct on the world.
Peace, Love, Key Club,
Trang Tran Pacific Northwest District Governor Key Club International
Hey Sharks! I am so excited to serve as your Lieutenant Governor this year! I can tell this will be a great and amazing year. I want to let you all know that no matter what the obstacles may be, I will do my best to always be there for you. Don’t think of me as a mother that will nag you almost all the time, but think of me of a best friend! I’ll be there for you when you need a helping hand, or a shoulder to cry on, or a person to hang out with. Let’s get rid of that wall between each other and build a bond with each other that’s stronger than ever. Call me, beep me, if you wanna reach me – whatever it may be, I will make it very easy for you to contact me. Now, I ask the same for all of you! Please do your best to keep in contact with me and I’ll do my best to do great things for the division. Thank you all so much for being awesome! I’m looking forward to working with you all! With love and service,
Athena Sok Division 34 Lieutenant Governor Pacific Northwest District Key Club International

BAKEOFF BAKE SALE You can set parameters like participants can only bake cookies or cakes, or just let everyone do their own thing. Charge a small fee to enter the contest. Find a venue for everyone to gather and have their baked goods judged. Provide a small prize for the winner, and then sell off all the baked goods. You can either charge per item, or just ask for donations for the items people choose to buy. Sell punch or soda for people to wash down those cookies and brownies.
BBQ CONTEST Amp up the fun with a little competition to find out who has the top grill skills. Contestants need to be original! Ask members of your group to act as judges. Create categories for different meats and vegetables, and categories for mild and spicy sauces. Require contestants to pay an entry fee, and then you can charge spectators by the plate. This event can be held on its own, or as part of a larger event like a field day. May the best griller win!
The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Key Club members, like you, can support the March of Dimes each semester: in the fall, raise awareness by hosting programs and in the spring, raise funds by participating in March for Babies, the March of Dimes largest annual fundraiser.
How will YOU eliminate MNT? Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. Neonatal tetanus kills one baby every nine minutes— nearly 60,000 newborn children every year. A significant number of women also die due to maternal tetanus. To eliminate MNT from the Earth, 129 million mothers and their future babies must be immunized. It will take $110 million—and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family. Visit www.TheEliminateProject.org for more information.
Wilson Key Club has created a joint team for Divisions 34 and 35 for the walk of March of Dimes. March of Dimes will be on May 18th, 9 am to 12 pm at Wilson High School. Key Clubbers are encouraged to find sponsors to walk for the March of Dimes. For more information, contact Wilson key Club’s President, Joan Vo, ilalalyjoan@yahoo.com.
Stadium Key Club received the Silver Award for Membership Growth at DCON 2013’s Awards Ceremony. After one year, Stadium has jumped from having a small club to having over 100 paid members. Stadium Key Club deserves the spotlight for their hard work and enthusiam, as well as persistence throughout the course of the year. Their work is truly inspiring! What are YOU doing that could put you in the spotlight? Stay tuned to see if you or your club will be featured in the next newsletter’s Spotlight!
